I've dragged myself into the noughties kicking and screaming, by purchasing an Ipod!!!! I'm not sure what posessed me??? :? But I went and bought one! I'm currently transferring my CD's onto the damn thing over the next few days, so will have about 50 CD's loaded when i'm done. But, what I was wondering is this......are there any of those sites still around which offer free LEGAL ;) ;) ;) music downloads??? :D

I only bought an 8Gb Ipod, but I don't intend storing movies on it so thought 100 albums would be enough??? It's got more memory than my last laptop!!!

I luv my Ipod Marty ! ! Don't know where I'd be without it, catching the train to and from work, it's the biz ! 8) 8)

I have a 60gig Ipod and some 2,500 songs loaded onto it so far. I still haven't copied all my cd's onto it yet.
One thing I do want is the gadget that allows you to plug your ipod in the car and listen to your music through the stereo - brilliant idea imo - keep you cd's at home and no need to worry bout someone breaking into your car to steal your CD's.

The other thing I luv bout the ipod is the docks you can buy . . . I might have to ask for an Ipal for Xmas!

robyn , for about $60 you can get a sterio transmiter that plugs straight into the earphone jack on your ipod
then just tune the transmiter into an un-used station on your radio so that they both correspond with each other and bobs your uncle.
ipod music through your car sterio.
try and get one with a car charger/ lap top charger, will save you spending money on batteries.

1. Cage input.

IF you have an older car with a CD input jack, this is the best. Just purchase a double ended stereo input cable from Dick Smith or the like and Bobs ya mistress (the cables that have the double o-ring thingy at BOTH ends)

or, as Gazz says, get a FM broadcaster mod .. heaps available for the ipod and dont chew too many V's.

2. Free music?

Well, this is subject to many things. ..

There are many sites available to download music, both legally and .... subjectionally (is that a word?)

If you download some pier to pier download software, you are able to download whatever the other 45 billion people in the world have available.

The only issue with that is ... what THEY might have may be pirated ... and therefore ILLEGAL.

Now ...ummm ... I dont think I have purchased a cd for a few years now ... ..... But, I figure Im doin the music industry a favour by ... backing up? .. their library .. in some way .. yeah?

Strika...

No free site for Ipod music... (ipods speak a different language to other MP3's)... Itunes is a great site, you can be sure of the quality, the lack of viruses and other problems... but it does cost $$$ ($1.65 per song or about $11 a disc from memory). What you can do is get free music from all sorts of other sites (just google).. then convert it to your Ipod, but sometimes the files will be corrupted. Very rarely but can happen.

You can buy all sorts of extras for the Ipod. I have the Ipod docking station so I can listen to it at home out a loud... I also have the transmitter for my car so i can have the Ipod in there. I also have a water proof and shock resistant plexiglass case for it. Ipods are very very susceptable to bumps and being dropped. In my Plexiglass case my Ipod has survived a vehicle roll over so it does work.

Take your time working out the favs list and various play lists. Smart Play lists organised by genre are great, every tim a new song in that particular genre gets added to your Ipod it automatically adds it to your play list.

There is a free downloadable program called Ipod to Computer Transfer.. jus google it. You can then copy your songs from your Ipod back to your PC in MP3 format so you can share them with non Ipod users, or keep them on a USB drive so you always have back up of the songs.

Hope that helps....

Oh and your Ipod can only be connected to 6 PC's in t's life. Each time it get's plugged in to a PC the Ipod registers itself with Ipod central. After 6 PCs, it will not register for any more PC's. So my manual tells me.

I just got a dirty big memory card for my mobile and put all my MP3s on that. As for the 60Gb Ipod, damn that's huge. I remember my first compuer having 128K memory, and my first PC had a 20Mb Hard Drive.

mininova.org is the torrent site i use to get all my international tv shows, all movies, cd's. Just be careful which files you download as some of them can be harmful!! As a general rule i only download popular torrents or files uploaded by people that i know produce good files, it's a bit of trial and error really.

As for the music files being transfered onto your iPod, once you have downloaded the file just "click and drag" it into iTunes and then transfer to your iPod as normal. easy peasy japaneasy! Since i got my iPod about 2-3 years ago i haven't bought a single cd, all my music is obtained thru this site or others like it.

MP3 files go straight onto your iPod like all other MP3 players, MP4 (movie) files is where you have dramas.....

We recently bought a Hyundai i30, it has a USB port that plugs straight into your IPOD, and you can then control your IPOD and select songs through the display on the dash, so you can put your IPOD in the centre consol out of sight, Best idea someone has come up with in a car yet!!! :D :D
