Interview Help

Postby mgvette57 » Tue Sep 02, 2008 3:08 pm

Gday all

I have a second interview tomorrow afternoon for a job I really really want. The first interview went very well on Monday but apparently the guy that I'm seeing tomorrow (John Howard - not the ex PM) loves it when people ask questions.

Has anyone ever interviewed someone and they thought 'Damn, that's a great question to ask' or any other suggestions?

I have a few already but mybrain is getting fried rather quickly from all this job hunting stuff and I think I am going a little stir crazy sitting on this thing all day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Michael

Depends on the kind of job and the employer. Here we like it when people ask about the culture of the place, how we manage people etc. This is because we rate "fit" into the organisation higher than qualifications.

Showing an interest in the organisation in a way that shows you've done a bit of homework on the place helps. Eg has there been any positive stuff in the press regarding projects they are involved in etc. Do you know much about the industrythey are in? If so what kind of issues are facing them at the moment. Ask about them etc.

You want to demonstrate that you are interested, motivated, will fit into the place well, are smart etc. I think though at the end of the day it will depend on how well the bloke on the other side of the table will get on with you and vica versa. To that end be yourself and if it doesn't work out then it probably wasn't going to work anyway

Good luck

Thanks Glen

The guy that interviewed me at the 1st interview is the one that i will have the most to do with, but the position is very autonomous as i only see him once a month to check on my 20 day plan.

With the company i think everyone knows about them already (Bunnings) so i'm not sure if there is anyone that knows anything that is not public knowledge as i think i have read their website inside out and back to frnt about 50 times.

They're retailers and they're hooked to the building industry, so how they are travelling at present with a downturn in the building industry, high material prices eg steel has doubled and lower consumer demand might be good if it's relevant to your job.

bunnings ...an old family (busselton originally i think)from W.A. who were timber fellers and millers for years (cut lots of W.A's jarrah out and sent it to england as railway sleepers) and supplied most timber to the west building trade for years..........bought out a hardware and timber miller/supplier called whitakers years ago, that was their first move into proper domestic h/ware retail ....then 90's made a push into eastern states ...........now owned by westfarmers and like all big chains are dessimating the small retailer

possibly useless information ,or you know it already.....

on the interview, I'm keen to learn and expand my knowledge in regard to this position is there support for me to develop/hone the skills i bring with me ??????? :) :)

does bunnings(wesfarmers) really want to take over the world ???? :P :P answer YES

go for it good luck

I agree to ask about the culture of the workplace. Tell them that its important to you to find a job where you love going to work everyday and feel like part of a team.

Easy

Tell him you ride and maintain your very own Kwaka (demands respect straight away of course!?)
Alternatively;
Ask what kind of on the job training is available to improve your product knowledge re products and applications.Ie the best tools /products for a given job.
Basically you want the boss to think you are genuinely interested and motivated not just another oxygen thief in their store!!
You get the first impression thing right without being an ass kisser and show them your genuine , you'll piss it in..
