so, basically....

the plan was to move from our current location - Lane Cove, to a new premises literally 5-10 mins drive down the road. this meant instead of walking to work, i would now have to catch public transport and i am ok with that. these plans have been in place for the past 2 yrs. everyone knows whats going on and has been making arrangements to prepare for our impending move at the end of the year.
in fact... i sold my ZX9R because it wasnt getting used and wouldnt need it to get me to work anymore.

WRONG!!

we get sat down today and told that we are NOT going to the new place, but in fact our dept is going to Greystanes..well thats just fcukin great...now i have now way of getting to work in a reasonable time..i have to go and buy a bike again (which of itself i like) but which i cannot actually afford to do. had they decided beforehand to not do the short move, i would NEVER have sold the bike.

the ironic thing is, when i took this job (the move had not yet been discussed), i moved to within walking distance to work....now that we are moving to greystanes, that place is actually a 10-15 min drive from where we moved from in the first place!!!

i just think its totally fcuked that they didnt plan it properly...and now i'm screwed

Tell them that since they screwed you around, you now expect them to give you a company car.

Of course, you probably won't get one, but you never know if you don't ask.

i refuse to answer on the grounds i may incriminate myself....also, public transport is not an option due to my start time and the distance/routes taken by rail/bus

At least you are going against the traffic. The travel time would be three times worst if it was the other way around.

That's what im not looking forward to about when we move from North Ryde to Homebush, going from a slight challenge with traffic to an absolute shitfight after *EVERY* nightshift. Thank-you King Georges Road!!! However the commute to dayshift will be pretty sweet as its stupidly early and against most (not all) traffic.

Good luck though, that is a real pain in the arse, and very poor form.

n.b. i used to work in Greystanes, there is nothing out there aside from a fricking speed camera. Public transport would be an absolute bastard for you and at least an hour longer than if you had driven at the minimum (I envision a bus from Lane Cove to Epping and then train and perhaps a bus for the final leg again)

for a dayshift, that correct..but i also do nights, start/finishing @ 7am. thats gonna suck badly going to work and coming home

I work out at Wetherill Park which is next to Greystanes and there is very little public transport at all. There is however a bus that runs from Liverpool to Parramatta and return along a dedicated bus lane. That may be an option if you can get to Parramatta which is a major transport site.

i feel your pain and frustration !! - job 1. i have moved once already this year and now notified we will be moved again, dont know where dont know when, but before the end of the year - job 2. was told the place we are in is going to be flattend by October, not sure where we will be moving to while they build new (gotta love gov agencies ). - it never rains but pours But this is not about me - Are you with the union ? if so is there anything they can do ?
Can you car pool? can you work something out something with employer re: the cost of another bike ?

heh that was my first thought too.
Although I'm not sure how successful your bus trip to work would be if you were coming to North Ryde.
I have a mate who lives over that way and every time he tries to bus it in it takes a good hour.
