6.5 years in the Army. Disillusioned with the crap pay, shitty conditions and stupid officers. Left and went to Ericssons in Broadmeadows.
3 months in Ericssons. Crap pay, un-airconditioned factory and a long drive to and from work. Heavily unionised and punching in/out of time clocks. Didn't like it, jumped at a job at AAP that was offered to me when I was still in the Army.
5.5 years in AAP Comms Services, got pissed off with the long hours, crappy managers and left. Had a MUCH better offer for doing the same job, so I left and went to Reuters.
8 years in Reuters, promoted once into a senior technical role, good money, long hours and a complete and utter bastard arsehole as a manager. He rode the guy in-between me and him into a mental breakdown through stress, so I had the pleasure of doing my job and his while the guy was on Workcover. Guy came back from Workcover NQR, I saw the writing on the wall (i.e. the guy was going to leave, then I'd have his job), so I left and joined NAB. Three weeks after joining NAB the bastard manager got sacked (and the stressed guy and a mate got retrenched).
5 years & eight months and counting with NAB. Promoted two times both with good money attached. I wrote my own job description, and my boss is in Sydney. Extremely good money, pretty good company, excellent support for single dads and no thought of leaving yet. Really really busy, a fair bit of responsibility, but it's ok.
