well after nearly 39 yrs on this earth i finally met a nice H/P cop

yesterday loaded up and headed out to first job, going through the 3rd school zone on way to said job i get pulled over

Officer: You do realize this is a 40kph school zone

Me: YES!!!!! THATS WHY I WAS DOING 40

Officer: yeah thats fine, but did you se the red light you just went through??

Me: ahhhh no, last time i glanced up from watching the speedo it was green

Officer: so you didnt see it......... what about the people you nearly hit, did you see them??

Me: What people, i didnt see any people

Officer: have you got your license there

Me: looking for wallet and mumbling ... bloody school zones, theres no tolerence for speeding, cant do 40 without constantly watching speedo instead of road like i should be, its bloody dangerous

Officer comes back with my license and no ticket, i nearly fainted, he obviously believed me and just said be carefull you nearly hit a whole family and there dog and also red light in school zone has gone up to 4 points and $408.00

well after that they have earnt a little bit of respect from me, should be far more giving people the benifit of the doubt

ya shoulda called him a cahn mate..that woulda fixed him

If that were the case they would at least make sure the speed limit was kept to, good thing about perm speed cameras is they're basically useless (for revenue raising purposes*) once you know where they are...

As long as we can get a speed limiter button like they have for pit lane so we can stick to 40 and watch where we are going. Plus it would be all cool and race

so, why can't parents take some responsibility and teach their kids about road safety?

I can understand around primary schools, but high schools?

I agree with Aardy on this one, there should be massive penalties for speeding etc in school zones..... As the controllers of the vehicle, we ultimately have control over speed and are responsible to ensure we don't endanger kids...... i find it a bit crazy to try and defer responsibility for road safety around school zones to the parents.... as no matter how much you teach them, they are still kids and can't be expected not to make the odd mistake or be distracted as they are still learning.....yes even high school kids are still just that..... kids, albeit a little older and a bit more responsible.....

Ok that would be fine if the powers to be installed flashing lights when the zone was applicable,not everybody has kids and knows when holidays are Same goes with level crossings everybody is happy to jump on the speeding thing what about boom gates It shits me that they dont spend money on things that could save lives and people just winging about compliance with 50 thousand different speed zones.Ok Rant over

i wasn't speeding, in NSW there is no tolerance for speeding school zones so you do 41 you get pulled

its this mentality that has us looking at our dash instead of the road.

i wasnt even doing 40 and missed seeing a red light and people crossing that is dangerous

i would rather see main roads stay at there normal speed and people watching what they should be so if a kid does run out we can at least brake /swerve rather than stare at a speedo to avoid a ticket and drive straight over the top of a kid without even touching the brakes.

all schools for that matter should have a pick up and drop of area inside grounds

i was a kid once and road safety was drummed into us at Kindergarten, look left, look right, look left again, dont chase a ball onto the road etc etc and my parents backed that up. i walked several k's to school and from school everyday and i surely dont remember suddenly becoming so stupid that within 400 metres of school i needed slower speeds to protect me

granted i was a country kid... rode a pushy or walked to school- a good 5km.... never got me run over either... i do remember all those ads with the look to the left stuff...

ppl are just getting slack these days...

The thing with those flashy light things is im sure they could turn them on when there's a sports carnival, i know they used to open the old signs at my primary school in canberra whenever there were weekend events, sports, etc.. (they could and did lock them shut when school was over for the day) so i can't see how these things are any different.

At Lakemba they went and put in an overpass over king georges road, then put a 6 foot fnce across the median strip to enforce kids using it, and whaddya know, my mrs ended up seeing some 14y/o coconuts trying to climb the stupid fence, yelled at them "theres a reason the fence is there, try using the crossing" got a grunty "oh?" in response and they went back to trying to clamber over the fence.
