Are You an E-Bay tragic ????

Postby Gosling1 » Wed Jun 20, 2007 9:08 pm

Everyone out there who uses E-Bay has had different experiences with it. Some good, some not so good.

Personally, I use it all the time to buy stuff that is basically too expensive in Australia, or simply unavailable here. There are some really excellent bargains to be had, and also a lot of overpriced rubbish, so its *Buyer Beware*........

If there are members out there who have never used it, or need further info, I am hoping that this thread will provide a lot of answers to the questions you might have. I used to have a pathological bias against buying anything *sight unseen*, but having had 100% success with every item purchased over the past 2 years, I think the success rate might be worth considering.......

Yup, look at Ebay every day. Bought 5 bikes off ebay so far. All cheap. Two heaps of shit, three pearlers. :) I think I'm ahead. Always wanted a $3000 turntable. Couldn't afford that but scored one for $500. Pretty much hooked since. :D
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

i have used it to buy lots of stuff for work, prices are around a third to half the price that dealers sell them for over here

i have also had problems with a couple of items 1 at the moment is a 15" airview panel that cost me $300 and the guy isnt responding to my emails so in the next day or 2 i will have to make a claim through ebay/paypal to try and get some cash back!

overall its a pretty good system but you really just have to read desriptions well and make sure the seller has good feedback

i was always dubious abt it..for a long time...only had my first "buy" a yr or so ago.... only reason was i wanted a memory card and it was 1/2 the price of getting one here... now ive bought a few things (mobile phone, steering wheel & boss kit for ute, ) and no dramas..i only buy brand new stuff tho...

my mrs sells a lot of her stuff on there (and buys heaps)...and she gets prob one in 5 ppl complain cos the 2nd hand shoes worth $200 new that she sold them for $30 "have been worn" (when she lists them as USED in good cond and theyve been worn twice)... she had sum woman threaten to go to the piracy mob cos a cd that she bought from a shop "looked copied"..... some ppl are assholes...

I'll let you know if/when I get my rearsets from Thailand

I've used it a bit, but I still have some reservations tossing money at someone I can't get to if it goes pear shaped. I guess I just need to trust people more. Mmmm nurse it's time for my therapy.............

I wouldn't say a "tragic"...

:D

I've been buying crap on ebay for years now, only had two problems, one thing went missing in the post and I did get ripped off over a DVD... but that woman got charged and stuff, and according to the QLD police I will one day get my $19.00 back... wooohooooo!!

I bought a lot of my bike gear from the US through ebay, you can save *alot* doing this. For example, there's a particular Joe Rocket jacket for sale here in Canberra (hot pink of course!) with a $700.00 price tag. I could get exactly the same jacket delivered to my door for $450.00 AUD.

I love EBay, Use it every day.

I have sourced pretty much ALL of my bikes and riding gear through it, I even generated enough cash to allow me to buy a running bike (Enter the Wee Beastie ZXR250 !!, also bought through EBay)

Bought :

2* FZR400 Yamaha ha-ha's, sold one for $1200 profit, then bought most of a FZR600, sold that for parts.(Was going to build up a FZR4/6, only to find out I have to sit my L's and P's in Oz... Bugger)

Made about $1800 profit, then freed off some cash from the Bank Vault (My Missus !), to get the Kwakka and riding gear..... 8)

Only been stung once, bought some boots for the bike, seller did not reply once, but got my cash back, use PyPal, gives you protection in a sticky situation (Ooh Errrrr...) :D

Also just got some decals and stripes for the bike off a racer on EBay, for an awesome price (Top Guy), biek will be sorted in the next few weeks, then off for my first proper (And legal) run !! :D
ZEN and the art of trying to get my *%&^$ motor to work ..... Where's my Tap and Die set again ????

I buy bits on eBay
and have done so for a number of years

I use it to get stuff I can't get here
...like jets and metering rods for old carbies (yanks have heaps of 'em)
...like Thunderbird memoribilia (poms have heaps)
or
stuff that is 'nla' when it comes to car or bike parts

with any auction or purchasing, you have to be careful and cynical
example-
gasket set for a Holden gearbox was advertised recently....bidding was up to $38  at the auction end
I got one from a dealer..$5.80 inc GST 8) ..nice price

I reckon when buying a car, a bike, a house, on eBay
caveat emptor

cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

I have bought some stuff from e-bay with no dramas, my main problem is Mrs Burky sees me on there and wants to go shopping :(

yeh i am..
i have bought so much for litttle one on ebay..

bought clothes sheet sets, playmats, heaps of stuff
such a bargain especially when i look at my savings which i reckon would be well into the hundreds by now..

i have used ebay for lots of things tho and yeh i agree it is buyer beware, good research into the product is a must to make sure you are getting a bargain..

alex uses it daily i swear he is always looking for bikes he can do up or bits of bling which u cant get here.
he also sells stuff aswell..

Legendary effort  My missus posts 8- 12 items a day and as you can imagine the postal service lets us down occasionally & its not her fault but with so much postage + stuff going by courier, the chance of a parcell going astray is quite high & some ppl will just blame you & leave negative feedback that you will have trouble disputing.... of course the buyer doesnt want to pay for registered mail so there is really no guarantee & what is the missus ment to do ? the only options are to refund & loose money, show reciepts for postage & possibly cop a negative feedback for no refund, put in a claim with the postal service (wont do anything)...its hard. I would hate to be working for ebay having to work with disputes, as its not black & white & some people can be quite unreasonable :?
