DennyCrane is down

Postby DennyCrane » Wed Jun 20, 2007 3:42 pm

I have finally got around to posting this here as it was put in another thread first, but about 10 days ago I had a crash, here is the story:

(June 10, 2007 Leaving work tonight, i hit some gravel/oil on the corner, back wheel slid out, managed to real it in but coludn't stop it and got highsided, F*CK!!!

My bike has a dent in the fuel tank, bent handle bars, scrathes to front fairing and screen, bent rear brake lever and what shits me the most scraped the engine case on the right side, where I was getting some crash knobs put on in 2 days, F*CK!!!! The ones attached to the frame saved the rest of the engine thank christ.

The guys from work who were out the front having a smoke came running out and helped me get it back into the workshop and hvae it looked at and couldn't find any fuel/oil leaks. So now I'm gonna contact a mate get him to look at it for an opinion with insurance but thankfully it's all minor damage but im still very pissed off.

I'm alright I think, the adrenaline is still going strong so I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow, hurting in a few places already, my knee is hurting like hell so I think I'll be going to the hospital for x-rays tomorrow too.

My gear did it's job, I have worn threw the jacket and gloves in a couple places and will need a new helmet, but I'm so pissed off

Post Script 1: (June 11, 2007) went to the hospital this morning and had some x-rays done on my knee, the verdict is that I was very lucky not to have fractured my 'fratella' (sp?) (kneecap) when I came off but it is likely that I have done some serious damage to the soft tissue around the knee. I am going back on friday to the soft tissue clinic because there is too much swelling at the moment to have any real insight into the damage.

I did however enjoy the look on the doctors face when he asked me why I didn't go straight there last night and told him I would have had to wait hours in line, especially with a public holliday tomorrow and thought I would get seen quicker today, which was true. the doctor however was not amused.

Post Script 2: (June 16, 2007) went back to the hospital yesterday, had some more xrays done. found out i have torn the cruciet ligament and a fair few muscles, but nothing broken - yay!!! I am off work at least til the end of June, but waiting for work cover to kick in.

Post Scprit 3: (June 20, 2007) bike has been assessed and will get Suncorp to sign off on repairs to it, total cost around $7500, thanks christ for insurance. Am now researching 2 piece suits, new helmet and gloves.

Get well soon mate, bad luck about the bike, but good to hear that the insurance will look after you. A good-news insurance story  , now that *is* good news....

I hope you heal up soon Denny, and the bike is repaired quickly! It's a bugger about the damage, but insurance is a good thing! I am surprised that with that figure for the repairs it isn't being written off.
Cheers,
Anne
