anyone know of a good sick/throat med?

Postby Zx12Piglet » Mon Apr 02, 2007 11:14 pm

need something over the counter...ears and eyes feel like they are on fire, throat feels swollen and hurts, back, shoulders, and neck muscles feel sore and stiff, and this all came out after my throat started hurting....

would go to the doctor, but school doesn't excuse for it and I can't miss anymore classes....so does anyone know of a really good over the counter med that could help? will appreciate the help!

I got that stupid cold last night. Seems I have been hit with every cold and flu doing the rounds over the last 12 months.

Anyway, I take Easeacold, which seems to reduce the number of days that I'm sick, drink lots of water and mix up the following:

1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Slither of finely chopped ginger

Mix it all together then add a teaspoon or two of sugar to improve the taste. Put some cold water in to bring the temp down.

Take some panadol for the sore muscles and get some decent sleep.

There's an asprin you can get that is highly soluble, you put two in about 1/2 glass water, let 'em dissolve and gurgle it down. Works a treat for sore throats.

Besides that, you need some sleep :)

Best thing for colds and flu is straight (no coke/ice/water) bourbon or whiskey. Theory being that a couple of shots will get the germs drunk so they stop attacking your body, also the alcohol will help you get a goods nights sleep so your natural immune system can disperse with the drunk germs!!!!
Well it works for Mike, I don't get sick so I've never had to put this theory to the test.........

The best thing I've found for a sore throat is Betadine throat gargle, it comes either ready to gargle or as a concentrate (with a measure) a couple of gargles of the stuff and you feel great in no time! .... tastes like rusty water though! :x

the best thing is to avoid getting sick...

drink plenty of fluids (water based, non caffeine) like water, cordial (weak) iced tea (tho it has caffeine) and fruit juice..lotsa fruit juice with vitamin c (orange, pineapple are the best- pineapple has other benefits too)

i also slug a shot of booze str8 (bourbon or vodka -not liquer) before bed which the alcohol seems to kill the bugs for a while...
