Been A Little Busy.........

Postby Damon Z1000 » Thu Mar 01, 2007 8:45 pm

As a lot of the local NW Sydneyites would have realised I have been a little reclusive of late, well as pre warned a few months ago it wasn't reclusivness it was work!

In August Winnebago RV announced they wanted to release a new range of RV's, after going to Rosehill show in April and making heaps of notes on the competition and the direction things are going, I was well armed with some new ideas to offer up.

Board meeting in August went as usual, very vague and everyone left feeling happ and looking forward to the new models arriving soon.

November arrives and 2 new Models arrive in my unit to "work with".
Informed that new models have to be completed by end of December!
Usual sort of deadlines, away I go and get stuck in, not too many details here, just lots of work, headaches, short on staff and lots and lotsof hours.
If I said I had put in 200 hrs ot in 8 weeks, I reckon I would be underestimating.
Worked 6 weeks straight without a day off and mostly double shifts, some of the guys that worked for me looked like zombies, don't think I looked much better

Anyhow heres a couple of shots of the first model complete, hit Adelaide show on time, all be it the Sikaflex holding the roof panel on would have still been wet when loaded on the truck.
The new Fiat is this model and the model without the bed above the cab, I also created the New '07 Transit, 2 models as well, almost identical design.

Busy busy busy........

Winnebago in Australia was created by Mr Bruce Binns who is now a well aged gentleman who still works 5 days a week when he's not jetting around Australia.

He runs the show in conjunction with his son now.

The name Winnebago was indeed originated in America but when Bruce couldn't find what he wanted to buy in Aus he decided to build his own, once completed he realised that there was a $$ to be made and decided to form a business.

Contacted Winnebago America in the early 60's to see if they were interested and the volume then was too small, so he asked if it would be a problem to set up Winnebago in Aus under his name, no worries said the yanks and away he went.
I bet they wouldn't mind some of the royalties off their name now.

Just shows from small acorns great oaks grow!

Just finished fabricating off plans the new 6.5m Skymapper observatory to be used on the top of Mt. Stromlow in Canberra, thats taken 12 months to complete!

Latest thing I'm trying to get into is deep sea or mining projects over on the West Coast, big$$$$ budgets, ooh yeah.

Later guys
