Best Value ISP ??

Postby Gosling1 » Mon Jan 22, 2007 8:45 pm

I am sick to death of being ripped off. So I am putting this question back out here for some advice.

Which ISP has the best value for money out there ??

I am currently paying $29.95 per month for ADSL2 through iiNet (OzeMail), and it gets me a lousy 500meg for 'peak' times (12noon to 2am), and 1gig for 'offpeak' (2am to midday). Once the limit is reached, it is slowing me back to bloody dial-up at 64kbps :x :x its a joke. I have to deal with these slower speeds during peak time for up to 10 days per month.

For $39.95 per month, I can get 2gig peak, and 4gig off-peak. Is this good value ?? :?

The goddamn Internet should be bloody free !!!

I'm on Optus (old plan)
$65/mth
12Gb normal (12pm to 12am)
24Gb off peak (12am to 12pm)

Me and my housemate only use about 10Gb a month in total.
Don't really need that much, unless you are like Neka. downtown.gif

Optus do have cheaper plans, quite resonable I think.

I am with internode... GO the node.....

in the three or is it four years.... that i have been with them, i have had one outage... of about 6 hours....... and that is it! They are not the uber cheapest around but, the quality of service is great.

BTW your hm number is eligible for Node ADSL2+ also.....

HOME-Extreme-Value $59.95 Min: 1500k/256k
Max: 24000k/1000k 20 GB Shaped

But seriously mate, you prob don't need anything quicker than the 512/128......

HOME-512-Starter $39.95 512k / 128k 8 GB Shaped

I was on this plan before, and it was quick enough for everything....

HOME-1500-Power10 $49.95 1500k / 256k 10 GB Shaped

I have had only two outages...both caused by my own hardware...

Probably the best part about internode is their support - they actually know what they are talking about, and different setups, like my smoothwall firewall with bridged modem, don't faze them...see how far you get with optus support with a setup like that!

http://www.broadbandchoice.com.au let your fingers do the walking Gos. It's all very subjective, I was with TPG for ages and just recently churned to Exetel because they were cheaper with better data limits, that being said, if you want to talk to a human being about a support issue from my understanding that basically doesn't happen, so what you lose in one area you gain in another.

Best to do your own research and that's the place to do it at.

lol that is run off the whirlpool site i provided earlier :P ;) But you are right mick, best place to check Oz broadband out.

Once you have an idea of what provider you like the idea of, it is a good idea to jump into their forums on whirlpool and have a look what people are saying about them..... you'll notice that there are a few, with the majority of posts being complaints or problems, and others where you'll struggle to find a complaint......

And if you do what Swabio says above then bear in mind that ANYONE that wants to bitch about an ISP's performance in Oz basically does it at Whirlpool, so regardless what forum you'll see shitloads of complaints, less complaints "probably" = a better isp which again "probably" = more $.
