Just a quick poll. How many people here, apart from me, will be filling in "Jedi" in the religion box in the upcoming census?

I will put down, motorcycling. It's a more generic name.
And the more of us who do and ride that day the better.
It bumps up our profile as riders, and strengthens our numbers for the future.
Future being what ever they plan to do with the census results.

Motorcycles and scooters were specifically excluded from the Census question asking about vehicles
garaged at every dwelling in Australia, and the nation's peak motorcycle group, the Australian Motorcycle
Council (AMC) wants to know why.
Question 54 asks: "How many registered motor vehicles owned or used by residents of this dwelling
were garaged or parked at or near this dwelling on Census Night? - exclude motorbikes (sic) and motor
scooters."
AMC spokesman, Shaun Lennard, said it was ridiculous that this massive exercise, conducted once every
five years, had again overlooked motorcycle and scooter ownership.
"This omission was raised after the last Census, and we were assured that motorcycles would be included
in 2006," said Mr Lennard, "so we were very surprised once the forms came out last week."
"The accompanying notes explain that question 54 and others around it are to collect information about
people's standard of living," he continued "What does excluding motorcycle ownership say about that? Are
Australian authorities not interested in quantifying the huge increase in motorcycle ownership in Australia
in recent years? With increasing road congestion and fuel costs, we now have State transport authorities
finally recognising motorcycles as a legitimate part of the transport network in this country, yet motorcycle
and scooter owners are specifically removed from the question on vehicle ownership."
Motorcycles are included at question 45, which asks about how people travelled to work on Census Day,
which makes their exclusion at question 54 even more puzzling, according to the AMC.
"We will be very interested to see the motorcycle use figures for 8 August 2006 once they are available -
I think authorities will be surprised to see just how many people commute by motorcycle, even during the
cool winter months of the southern states," Mr Lennard said.
"When you read the level of detail other questions go into, we just cannot understand why motorcycles
and scooters weren’t included as a separate category of garaged or parked vehicle."
Mr Lennard said the AMC would lobby the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and other federal agencies to
ensure that motorcycle ownership was included in the next census.
"This is a clear example of motorcycles often not being seen in two senses - both on the roads and in the
development of government policy."

I wrote "WHY" next to the exclude motorcycles statement. Hopefully that'll mess with someones head (probably mine, but anyway I felt better for writing it)
