Dear Dr. Stereo,
When I bought the racer originally in 1996 I ran 14/44 at Broadford to start with. As my lap times came down and corner speed improved, I gradually dropped teeth off the back till I ended up with what i ran on Sunday which was 14/41. Now that I am getting back a little of my old turn speed, I am finding I am running out of revs here and there, and therefore have to compromise turn speed so i don't sacrifice exit drive. The modern stuff pulls so much harder off the turns than mine, so I need to take wider entries, square off and drive out earlier to stay with them down the chutes.
Now I hadn't really taken too much notice of my wheelbase, since the bike was steering OK up till then. However in the last dry race, I found the front was starting to push. With the bars starting to turn in a little as the front lost grip. I took a good look at the set up then and noticed how far back the wheel was sitting in the swingarm and figured that pulling it forward from the last adjuster may actually improve my steering too .
So, here is the deal. I am finding third too low and fourth too high for turn 1. 3rd i have to slow down too much to not have it bouncing off the limiter when I need the drive. 4th is too tall too pull hard off the turn.
Turn 3 (crash) is fine in 3rd, but maybe could go a tad taller as then I could hold that gear all the way to the straight. ATM I am just running short of Revs on the little pit straight and either have to button off early or go up and then back a gear, so I want to avoid that.
So my question is this. If I ran 15/41, do you think then that 3rd would do for turn 1, and would I pull crash with it??? If not 2nd would be OK as long as I short shifted into third before the flip flop and got on it real early out of it onto the pit straight!
Or go 15/43 and see if that would be better??? I am leaning towards 15/43 as I reckon I could pull that difference out of crash and then hold third all the way to the straight and then third again for turn 1!!! What ya reckon??? Am I barking up the wrong tree???

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?
