Needless to say, the irrigation specialist, who no doubt could have helped me out was closed, since their business hours are Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

The same people, if you asked them how business was? would say it's hard or slow or working harder for the $s than last year etc...

Well, my answer to all of these operators is that if they're dumb enough to hand their market share to Bunnings and alike, due to running their businesses like a hobby shop or a little side line, they deserve to go backwards.

Any business owner who has a shopfront in 2011, pays rent, insurance, security etc ..... and aren't open 7 days a week and haven't got an online side established, is half committed and their success or the lack of it is reflective of that.
:kuda: :kuda:

Nice Rant Pete.... but i'm on the fence on this one and not sure which way to fall.....

The same guy might also say with a Bunnings on every second corner, Wages, Superannuation, Overtime rates, etc etc, it's just not worth opening the doors on weekends, or perhaps he is comfortable with his "lot" and doesn't need to work weekends....
I used to work long hours 7 days a week when I was younger, and I reckon I missed out on more than I earnt in dollars, sure i'm secure enough today because I did the hard yards then, but I wouldn't like to have to work 7 days a week today just to pay the bills.

I remember the old days when everything closed at 12 noon on Saturday till Monday morning, life seemed a lot slower and you planned to get what you needed for the weekend during the week or you just spent time relaxing with the family, friends, BBQ's etc.

Although there was always a loophole. I remember you were allowed to sell books on Sundays, but not Snooker tables.
One of those Billiard Table mobs placed a book on each table. They used to sell books for say, $4,000 and you received a free Billiard Table ;)

I know what you're saying Smithy, and to be honest I wouldn't want to do it myself either as i had also done my fair share of it. I think it has a lot to do with the different "stages" of life as well.

All I'm saying however is that in today's fast pace of life is a lot different and price is one thing, but convenience is another. People spending longer at work due to technology and different factors, but when they want something, they simply go where it's available NOW.

"The same guy might also say with a Bunnings on every second corner, Wages, Superannuation, Overtime rates, etc etc, it's just not worth opening the doors on weekends, or perhaps he is comfortable with his "lot" and doesn't need to work weekends...." the truth of the matter is that if he's not willing to keep his business open 7 days, he's effectively handing his potential customers to Bunnings on a silver platter. To reward the business for being open during weekends, guess where the same customer is going to end up during mon-fri business hours when he needs something.

Life, as well as business is changing and not necessarily for the better, but unless you're willing to change with it, you get left behind...... harsh but true :kuda:

more on that after a couple of beverages at the Xmas party...............hope the bottle O will be open

8 hours in a car with a guy who's every 2nd word is f*cken. Any describing word is F*cken. And any female seen on the street, no matter what she looks like is followed by a running commentary of what said person "would do to her". It got old really quick. Also bogan slang non stop. "I cant get a feed, ive got no coin". How hard is it to say "I cant get lunch, I forgot my wallet" or "I have no money".

OK, here's the thing..........

Joy got a set of diamond stud earrings for her birthday from me earlier this month............I'm not ranting about that 8)

She has gone out today to some place to get her two ears pierced. When she got home asked how it was, she said they were nice people ,but she has to go back since they put one of them lower than should......

FMD, true professionals, that's 1 in 2 OR 50% and she was OK with it, since they were "nice" and really taken their time.
( that's called a slow f..k up  )
This is how low our expectations are toward service and results are in general.

Now she has to wait for the stuffed one to heal, before they can "re-punch" the second one.
I might have to put a spot on her ear with a marker pen or lend them a vernier or at least a ruller.....

fark, fark, fark, fark ...........

Thanks for listening (reading), I feel much better now :kuda:

I agree with you. I will be pissed off when his family get bucket loads of money from the press to tell his storey.

and if it was kept out of the media the little shit would have got a slap on the wrist and sent home the day he was caught.
But with all the world media attention the Balinese needed to make a point.

Rant away.....

Postby StuMiller » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:21 pm

Flew into Sydney today. Making some good time, thinking I'll be in the office to get some work done. Captain comes on and said that we've been delayed. Holding pattern, here we come. Something about the airport was too busy and truck loads of rain. Flying in circles makes me dizzy and we didn't even have a choice! Damn holding patterns!
