Place is about 60 years old I reckon and these are the original wires and indeed the original switch, not completely convinced the switch is the problem, basically the light remains on, but replacing the switch is a cheap and normally relatively simple thing to do and then I can sus out if the prob is the switch or the house needs a sparky.

in the olden days they used red for the active(live)

if the light is stuck on and was previously working just fine then you have a switch prob

as suggested above , make sure light is on , go turn off the power , swap the switch over , the new ones have 3 holes so you can use em with another switch as well , switch upstairs and downstairs kind of think

if the wires are joined together then leave em that way

when you have your switch attached then turn the power on and check your work before you put it back on the wall incase you need to turn it around the other way

easy job, just be safe

if the place is that old then u'll have a black wire, a red wire and a bare wire.

maybe they ran out of black wire and used white wire.

at the end of the day the switch should only have two terminal that are used to switch the light on and off. if red goes in it needs to go out other wise its a short cct.

as for $200, ur not quite right, i'll only charge $199 and i'll even give u a ksrc discount of 1%.

That is correct. The other red wire might go to another switch.

mrmina wrote:[maybe they ran out of black wire and used white wire.
White wire is used as a switch wire which goes to the light.
