Non-Motorcycling things to do at the Island?

hmmmmmm .. considered fishing, nick down to Ryll and hire a putt putt for a few hours.. golf course is also pretty good for a day out, especially during the week ..

and if you want to get rid of them for a couple of hours take them to Ventnor beach and tell em they gotta walk back to the tent site.

ummm heres the thing...the boys are 16 and 14... they think ur uncool... ur going away for a weekend WITHOUT motorcycles...motorcycles are the epitomy of cool....

instead of doin this, take the bastarges to SBK...pitch a tent and camp..watch the bikes, watch the hooligans...let em have a few ales...they will think ur the best dad ever...

wish my dad hadda taken me to the races (actually took me to speedway once cos it was near- i was abt 14 and i loved it...)

There idea of cool ATM is hangin out at the skate park with their baggy jeans waistband draggin on the bottom of their DC /Nike/Insert Fav cool brand here! runners, listening to there Ipods, and cruising for chicks!

It all just sounds like repeat process to me, just a generation on, wearing different clothes, with smaller portable music devices! (An LP player was a biatch to cart around on your shoulder, and the extension cord limited mobility somewhat )

At least they arn't doing what I was at their age!!!!!!!

It's actually a camp 6 plus something or other, but zachary same as the one in pic cept for colours and it's not me . Yeah it makes camping bearable!

Seal Rocks is a good walk and View if it is still there...

Teach the boys to drink, if they don't already, though I'm guessing once they step foot on the island it becomes a natural occurance.

Surfing at the island is like throwing a bait for white pointers.

Oh and hit the Bayliss shop if it's open.

umm so replace skateboards with motorcycles...baggy jeans with leathers...and ipods with beers ....and uve got..oh no..shock horror....

mate dont give em a hard time cos there hobby is different, just wait till they realise that skateboards altho fun, aint got nuthin on a 600cc+ machine up on one...

When i was younger i did the SK8 thing. Ramps were the best but the fall from grace kinda hurts real bad, Morooka skate shed large half pipe and the board beat me to the bottom . It landed on it's end, i fell laying down ontop board into hip and couldn't walk for 3 weeks . The bruise went from the knee to the arm pit, and i lost my job because i couldn't show up

Now the bike fills that hole better than ever

A little off side here and the boys will not be at all interested unless they look like Harry Potter and spend all their time at the library (don't sound like they are )
They have installed an experimental eletrickery generator beside the bridge at San Remo that works on tidal flow .
Dunno if there is much to see or any tour/information about it but ??

Stop off at Cranbourne Tackle joint and get good info on fishing . The owner does a radio spot Satdy mornings and seems to know everything going on in the area .
Think elephant sharks are suposed to run about this time of year and are fun to catch but better to eat .

They tell me their is a knack to cooking Elephant fish Billy!!!! What's the secret??? And their is no way Billy, that Donna would clean fish!!!!
Even when living in Perth and owning a boat, thus doing loads of fishing and catching a fair amount of fish, Donna would shy away from the fish prep duties rather rapidly!!!

The tidal generator actually does sound interesting Billy, thanks for that. But you're right, probably not to teenagers

Well we are home again from the Island, and had a ball. We got away at 1.00pm friday, so were set up at the campsite by 3.30pm. We went in to Cowes for a wander around, had some dinner and a few drinks, and were back at the campsite by about 8.30pm. A few more drinks and off to bed. It was feckin freezing. We had given the good sleeping bags to the kids, as you do, and we were making do with a blanket. We had to huddle together all night to stay warm. Terrible it was i tell ya!

Next morning we had breakfast and commenced the first of the days activities. The Maze- Pretty boring, very easy, and got quite warm in amongst the wooden fences. Much prefer a Hedge Maze. A lot cooler to walk through. But the kids had a ball

The activities centre was a spin out. Kinda like a freak you out scienceworks! A house where the water runs up hill, and all the walls are esque! It plays havoc with your equilibrium. Donna started getting sick, so we had to bail out of it.
Then a Mirror Maze, which was fun! The kids played games and tricks on each other all the way through.

Then we did a slide which has a free fall prior to tapering out flat at the end. It's not high, but I had to do it first before they would!!

Then we chilled in the cafe while the kids destroyed the Mini Gold park. then someone who I won't name, lost my rather Exxie Digi Camera Bugger!

The kids wanted to just hang around the park we were staying in on the Saturday PM, so Donna and I explored the Island. On the way back from the Nobbies, we spotted a big fat Echidna by the side of the road. We stopped an watched him/her digging for food for about ten minutes before we got bored and left.

We got back in the PM, and showered ready to go into town for dinner. The previous night we had eaten at Pino's as per usual. The food is always good, cheap and quick! But Sat night we went to the Isle Of Wight Bistro at the kids request. Wish I hadn't allowed them to stray me from Pino's. the food was crap, as was the waiting staff.

We then went downstairs for a few beers with some friends who were down at the Island also, while the kids hung out at the games arcade and cruised Church St and surrounds for chicks!

We got home about 12.00. Unfortunately I wasn't tired enough to sleep through another cold night. (note to self-never talk anyone into borrowing the sleeping bag.)

We got up this morning and had a massive breakky. Started with coffee, then Cereal with fresh Bananas and peaches, then Eggs Benedict with Pancetta, Followed by pancakes. And yes by this stage I felt as fat as a house! I couldn't believe how much the kids showed down though. They had two muffins with Pancetta and eggs, plus cereal, plus three pancakes each!!!! Yeah......I do remember eating my way through my teens!!!

We then packed everything back up (1hr go to whoa). Then went across the road to the Koala Conservation park, and cruised around checking out the Koala's. There were heaps of them. They had four markers out under trees to designate where they had seen some that morning, but we saw them, and loads more. Some were quite non-plussed at out presence. One walked past us on the ground not 5 feet away, before slowly scarpering up a tree with some fresh new leaves.
One Mum had a Joey clinging onto her. Very cute.

Last thing we did, was the traditional fish and chips lunch from the fish shop on the esplanade, then sat on the grass in front of the beach and ate it.

Personally I could have stayed another night (even though I was cold) But the Kids couldn't find a BMX or skate park to ride their bikes on!!!!

They have been to the World Supers, Moto GP, Oz SBK's, and the tin tops there over the past few years, so they are not really all that interested in it Neka! Faarked if I know??? Maybe it's like when you have a smoker for a parent, and end up not smoking???
