It was very said about Charmain's death, however she is one of the many who suicide. Her suicide had news coverage as she was a public figure. Suicide isn't about being selfish, weak, or payback. The person is in such a deep dark hole of despair that they simply cannot imagine a way out of their headspace. Even though the person may still experience positive emotions, such as love for and by their family, they cannot remember the simple emotions of happiness or joy. Some say that those who suicide are taking the easy way out, but I really don't think so. Just because a person wants to end their life, doesn't mean they don't have regrets for hurting the people they leave behind. Also, imagine what it takes to pull that trigger, to drink the acid, to jump off a height, jump in front of a train etc etc, that also takes a kind of bravery I hope that none of us ever have to experience. However, climbing back from the brink of suicide, holding off suicidal thoughts, chasing away thoughts of self-harm, and having the courage to ask for help also takes a huge amount of bravery of a different kind, and it can really batter the person's self-esteem.
Cheers,
Anne

Unless you've reached those depths of depression, you can't make judgements about selfishness or weakness or bravery or anything else. By that point they've needed professional help for some time, and so does their friends and family. The person's whole perspective on the world is skewed and the normal things that matter, work, family etc, lose all relevance. Mental health is a sliding scale, you don't just wake up one day clinically depressed. There are triggers, and traumas, but they are much easier for your support base to spot. The newsreader's friends probably didn't recognise how serious the signs were, or know what to do when they did. I wasn't them, so I can't judge. I do know several people who have had this happen to their friends, and the big thing they say is they didn't know things were that bad.

Its a sad thing, and the victims are the families.

The other comments about the news coverage. Individual suicides should not be covered. Its been shown in the past that seeing a story about jumping off cliffs can set off triggers in people with that disposition. Thats why you don't see stories about people jumping in front of trains, but people do. I think there should be more coverage about suicide itself, more of an education thing.

nice to see some posts of a compassionate nature...... the depth of despair for these unfortunate people has tragic results for all family and friends........isnt it more selfish that we do not notice their plight...

There are many comments above that could be quoted. Many valid opinions from those that speak from experience, whether that be from themselves or through anecdotes of people they have known.
This is a very "heavy" subject to brace on a forum that is dedicated towards those that are infatuated with Kawasaki sportsbikes. But this is a site of friends and a "club" with a kindred spirit. We are not 1% ers but we are a motorcycle club with a brotherhood and a passion for two things
1. Kawasaki - it's what binds us
2. Spirit - being predominantly Australian we will bend over backwards to help one another.
Goes without saying really that that is what draws me here.
I could speak from experience but I know that it would either draw ire or empathy and that is not required.
I do have one little titbit to add though and it is the way I live my life.
Remeber this Mantra;
There are no such things as problems, only opportunities to find solutions.

:D :D

If you or anybody you know may be suffering from depression, anxiety or have a disposition towards bipolar activity then the important thing is to seek assistance or provide it.
