a sad tale

Postby sneakypete » Wed Dec 12, 2007 7:49 pm

as most who check the for sale section would know... i sold my ZX9r just about a month ago..

who knew how timely that was???

2 weeks after i received payment for it.... my Rottweiller, Trakka, went down like a bag of shite... they did tests and found he had tumours on his heart, abdomen and spleen, and probably kidneys. he was only 7, but was just the best pet i have had, and was perfect with the kids..

we had him put down 2 weeks ago, 2 days after going to the vet. but the thing is, basically in the the few weeks since i sold my bike (proceeds of which was going to purchase a trackie) i spent nearly $2500 on vet bills!! i couldnt believe how much it costs to get these tests (ECG, ultrasound etc) if i hadnt had the money from the sale, it would have made an interesting discussion at the vet's. i also dont know if i would have gone ahead with it had i known the cost previously (probably would've tho)

and worst of all, after the tests i had to put him down, not even a chance of recovery...

so, i lost my wonderful Dog, lost my beautiful bike, lost half the money i got for the bike, and lost my chance for a track bike for probably 12 months at least..

not been a good time lately...

Mate, I've had to tell a vet to put down an old mate and it is almost as painful as losing family. Commiserations and remember the good times. Vale, Trakka.
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

Shit Pete, that's horrible news. It's always really sad to loose a member of the family, and a puppy is no less a member of the family than any other member. RIP Trakka.

Sorry to hear about your pup.

I am a vet nurse and I know that vet bills aren't cheap.

Hope you have great memories of your friend that last you a lifetime, and a bike again in the near future to help you forget your worries like mine does. :)

I feel your pain. We had to have our 5 year old shephard put down a couple of years ago as he had a liver infection..
The vets bills sure mounted up..
It was a sad time.

Anyway mate, come over on Saturday and drown your sorrows.... :-)

I can't tell you how sad it was to read that! Mostly because of the Hound, but also due to the bike situation. I have been in this predicament in the past. It isn't nice. I spent over $12,000 (yeah, I know it was stupid.....but I sorta got to the point where I had spent $6k and thought what the hell...in for a penny...in for a pound!) trying to save one of my Spaniels who had Dilated Cardio Myopathy (enlarged heart) due to dropping 14 pups! She didn't make it after all that!  (I have her only son though, who is the spit out of her mouth, which is always a constant reminder of her!!) :D

I hope it all sorts itself out soon mate! :)

That's pretty ordinary Pete. We spent just over $5k keeping our poodle alive a couple of years back, although she survived it so that worked out.

Pete.
Very sorry to hear. Our household is a zoo, 3 cats and a dog,. They are all very dear to the home environment - sometimes a pain in the arse - but without them there would definitely be a large hole. Commiserations on the loss of a part of the family unit.

I know it's definitely shutting the gate after the horse has bolted type of thing, but there is a thing called pet insurance. It may seem a little odd but it is what I am getting the missus for christmas. I know how besotted she is with all the animals - and I know how much she would fight to heal them if it came to that. The thing that decided me on this was 1. your post above 2. I would hate to see one of our pets lost because we couldn't afford to help them.

All members that have pets that are special to them should speak to their vet regarding insurance - or google pet insurance.
Bugger private health insurance there is always medicare :D Pets are more worthwhile.

Pete, have a beer on me ;)
All the best
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.
