GPS for car and bike

I've been thinking about investing in a GPS but if I do, I'd like one that could be used in both the car and on the bike.

I know Garmin has a good one for bike use, but would be interested in any info or advice people have.

Sorry back to normal transmission. GPS yep good. We've got a Tom Tom for the car, works brilliantly. Don't know how it'd go on the bike. I just follow everyone else. I just hope one day I don't end up behind the Dykes on Bikes around Mardi Gras time.....

I was in a Dick Smiths/Powerhouse today and they had a huge pile of Tom Tom's specifically for bikes at $999. No idea whether it's a good price or not, but they obviously do one for bikes anyway.

I just follow Gos and hope he knows where he's going

I'd recommend Tomtom Rider v2. it is a brilliant unit with heaps of features - waterproof, touch screen, bluetooth etc. rrp $999, out of my budget.

I bought a tomtom one for my cage though, only paid $399 - there was a special promotion $50 cashback a month ago. i'm loving it, very reliable and accurate, highly recommended!

You could always go the car version for $399 and a pack of freezer bags $1.50 incase the weather goes bad

Glare is the main problem. The MIO i have isn't great on the bike as the glare on the screen was bad, but still had the same problem in the car depending on the position. Don't know if the bike versions have the same problems. Just something to rember when shopping.

This is what I do - although I prefer the Glad Zip Lock bags ....

There is really no where for me to mount it on the 7 so I slip it in my pocket and run a headphone up into my ear... you don't really need to see the screen if it is talking in your ear.... If I am unsure I pull over and have a little looksee....

Works just fine - and it saved me HUNDREDS of dollars.... the ones we were looking at for both the car and the bike were $1500....

+1 i'm still trying to work out a way to fit my Tomtom One on my 6. does anyone know any aftermarket mounting kit specifically design for motorcycle? (rather than the stupid suction on the windscreen)

The suction cup should attach to the tank, on the 7 as close to the front as possible but don't forget to use a strap to the unit incase the mount lets go. Used to do it on the 7 all the time and only once the suction cup let go but the strap saved it from hitting the road

Technik, the tank on the 6 should have a flat spot on it somewhere just don't know the mounts on the Tom Tom units as mine was a MIO

Garmin Quest-this is my mount on the ZX-10R, it uses a RAM mount which is made for it. Quest comes with a car kit too, it's waterproof and great for bike and car. It doesn't have a huge screen, nor a touch screen but it's way smaller than most and very portable for when it has to be demounted from bike.
Battery is rechargeable and has a long life (with screen backlight dull).

I doubt that a GPS will ever find its way onto the MFP12, I think it would be a bigger distraction than a YUCK CHUCK mobile SPEW VOMIT phone
