A motorcyclist has been arrested and charged after being clocked by police travelling at 150kmh near Taree, on the state’s mid-north coast.

Manning/Great Lakes Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed checks on the Pacific Highway at Nabiac just after 8pm yesterday (Tuesday 29 December), when they allegedly observed a red and white Yamaha motorcycle travelling at 150kmh in a 100kmh zone.

They pursued the motorcycle to Bullocky Way where they located it stopped by the side of the road.

Police spoke with the rider – a 40-year-old man from Blackwoods in Victoria – who allegedly confessed to them he’d reached a top speed of 240kmh in the slippery conditions.

He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station before being charged with drive vehicle recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and exceed speed limit by more than 45kmh and conditionally bailed to appear in Taree Local Court on 19 January 2010

Drink driver stung twice in six hours: police

December 30, 2009 - 3:48PM

A man has been caught driving more than three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit twice within six hours in Melbourne's outer north-west, police say.
The 29-year-old Warneet man was first pulled over driving a ute on the Calder Highway in Gisborne just before 4.30pm yesterday and allegedly blew .169, police said.
The man's licence was immediately suspended but it did not stop him from again getting behind the wheel and he was allegedly pulled over just before 10.10pm on the Calder Highway in Castlemaine and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of .162.
He is due be charged on summons for both drink-driving offences.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Ken Lay said earlier this week that police had the power to confiscate a person's car keys if they believed they would drive drunk.
But he said drink drivers had to take responsibility for their own actions and often repeat offenders used spare keys to drive vehicles.
He made the comments after a 21-year-old P-plater was allegedly caught drink driving twice within two hours in Ringwood on Boxing Day.

The man recorded a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit when he was stopped for speeding at Maroondah yesterday afternoon.

The Chirnside Park man was also a disqualified driver and will be charged on summons.

Some people clearly are shit for brains!!! It's been VERY widely advertised that coppers are going to be out in force this Christmas period and they probably wonder how they got nabbed... potential Darwin award winners I think.
