Learner motorcyclist charged with high-range drink-driving – Mid North Coast LAC
Sunday, 29 Nov 2009 05:11am
A learner motorcyclist is facing a string of charges after being caught drink-driving on the state’s mid-north coast.
Highway Patrol officers saw a young man riding a Honda 100cc scooter west along Grant Street, Port Macquarie, just after 12am yesterday (Saturday 28 November).
They also noticed the motorcyclist had a male pillion passenger who was clutching an open bottle of red wine.
Neither the rider nor his passenger was wearing a helmet.
Police stopped the scooter a short time later and spoke with the rider before subjecting him to a roadside breath test with positive result.
The 18-year-old local man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and subjected to a breath analysis which returned a high-range blood-alcohol reading of 0.165.
Further checks revealed the teenager was the holder of a learner’s permit which prohibits him from carrying passengers.
He was subsequently charged with:
§ Drive with high-range PCA;
§ Learner ride motor bike/trike with other person;
§ Learner driver not display "L" plates as required;
§ Motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet; and
§ Rider with helmet ride with one passenger without helmet.
He was conditionally bailed to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on Monday 14 December 2009.
