Australian Refugee V's Aged Pensioners

Are you aware of the following?

The Australian Federal Government provides the following financial assistance:-

BENEFIT
Weekly allowance
$253.00 AUSTRALIAN AGED PENSIONER
$472.50 OVERSEAS REFUGEE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA

Weekly Spouse allowance
$56.00 AUSTRALIAN AGED PENSIONER
$472.50 OVERSEAS REFUGEE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA

Additional weekly hardship allowance
$0.00 AUSTRALIAN AGED PENSIONER
$145.00 OVERSEAS REFUGEE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA

TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT
$16,068.00 AUSTRALIAN AGED PENSIONER
$56,680.00 OVERSEAS REFUGEE LIVING IN AUSTRALIA

I don’t know about you, but I think this is wrong.

If I was a refugee, why would I look for work?
After all, the average pensioner has only paid taxes and contributed to the growth of this country
for the last 40 – 60 years. :x

if their country is so shit, why don't they do something about it instead of lumping all of their problems onto another country? its a fact that refugees go to ANY other country, and take their language, religion, ideals, credo, PROBLEMS with them, and then expect the donor country to welcome them with open arms, pay them, give them housing, jobs, cars, clothes, food, etc etc, let them live in their OWN communities where they DONT speak the language of the country giving them all of these benefits, and THEN have the gall to complain that they are mistreated by the people who actually GIVE them all of these entitlements. I'm not saying that it is ALL of them, but have a look around and you will soon see what i mean.

I have no idea, I've never seen it! Am I sheltered living in lower-middle class immigrant-heavy blacktown?

What have you seen, some particular cases?

None of our families have been here much over 200 years, just a few generations.

We have the right to determine who lives here, but not the right to send people back to their country to be persecuted or die.

Tim.

Modern political asylum

The United Nations 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees guides national legislation concerning political asylum. Under these agreements, a refugee (or for cases where repressing base means has been applied directly or environmentally to the defoule' refugee) is a person who is outside their own country's territory (or place of habitual residence if stateless) owing to fear of persecution on protected grounds. Protected grounds include race, nationality, religion, political opinions and membership and/or participation in any particular social group or social activities.
