Tour Down Under...

Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:08 pm

As most of you know, I spend most of my work days riding around upsetting people. This requires the removal of the nice, polite, friendly part of my demeanour. Sure, it's not a very big operation, but it has to be done. :D

So, when it comes time to work events like the Tour Down Under, it's good to be able to put on the happy face for a while.

I've just finished working 9 days straight and am thankful that I've got the next 4 days off because I am seriously worn out. During the last 9 days I've done escort and protection duties for Mr. Armstrong (Lance, not Neil) and then performed escort duties during the race for the pelaton. All in all, it's been a great week.

Sunday night we attended at the after race party. Motorcycle cops and free grog.... it might sound suprising but it's a combination fraught with hilarity! Not all of us involved with the Tour attended at the party, but those of us that did had a great time. I thought I'd share a few photos from last night of the boys with a few of the stars of cycling.

The cycling guys are approachable, happy to have a chat and more than happy to have a million photos taken of them.

The boys and Mike Rann - thanking us for bringing in millions of dollars of revenue.... maybe.

Phil Liggett - the voice of cycling and an absolute gentlemen.

Now this is a serious bottle of plonk!!

Well, look, it's like this... my trademark photo includes the thumbs up, which is far more in line with my general attitude in life that the 'kuda (which, while I'm on the matter, has me wondering why we've decided to call it the Kuda as opposed to the 'cuda?). Anyway, the thumbs up in me is a hard habbit to break and remembering to do the Kuda after a few drinks is close to impossible. :D

No. No time for pics with him, but I did get to meet him, got him to sign a Team Astana hat and also got a hold of a Team Astana shirt, that can't be bought, from one of the crew.

I'm not really a big cycling fan, but I have to admit that Lance Armstrong is an inspiration for us all. Everywhere he went he was surrounded, and hounded, by media and fans. Even the other guys racing in the tour wanted to get his signature!!

Great experience Ardy . How cool is Stewy , right up there , in my opinion with Troy Bayliss as great Aussie sports stars with their feet firmly planted .

Those photos have just confirmed my thoughts that being a police officer or a cyclist is hazadous to your sex appeal  .As there is no body with a full head of hair :P

Not a massive cycling fan either but fair to say the Tour Down Under has never seen the publicity previously that it got this year and all due to one bloke by and large.

Testicular cancer has a pretty high survival rate as they just cut the affected knacker off and that's usually the end of the story but make no mistake, this bloke is still a fucking legend just to win the Tour de France 7 times regardless of how many balls he might have...
