Another "is there a plumber in the house"...

Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:52 am

Over the last couple of months we've lost pressure from the hotwater system, it just dribbles out at times, and is no where near as strong as the cold water. Immediate thoughts are that perhaps the pressure limiting valve is kaput, but is there anything else it could be? HWS is fairly new - dated 2004 or so - not ancient by any means.

And whats the best way to replace the limiting valve without getting 100 litres of water on the laundry floor?

Where is the pressure limiting valve ? What sort of HWS is is it ?

Ok, time for an update...

The inlet pressure valve is an SP50 Male. I bought one at bunnies to replace the old one. Except the one I got was Female  took it back and found they didn't have any Male SP50's  But at least I got my money back.

So, I get home and think - "what to do?"

After having a quick squiz at the one I did get, it gave me an idea. I turned the hotwater tap in the laundry on full. The grabbed the shifter and gave the valve a good whack - water came through a little better. Gave it another whack, and noticed the same increase in pressure, then another then another almighty WHACK! and I now have full pressure hot water

Ok, so it's not "fixed" but I have at least narrowed it down to the SP50. Job for another day. :D

this is NOT a problem...as we make all sorts of adaptors
male to male sockets..or female/female nipples (the plumbing industry is not sexist ;) )

have a look here -
http://www.ryemetal.com/downloads/whole ... re0505.pdf
then
trot off to Bunnings...coz all of the screwed brassware is available there

or check out our range of valves
http://www.rmc.com.au/products/plv/index.php
(get 'em at Tradelink or Reece or some at Bunnings)

cheers

Yeah, cheers for that Smitty. I did consider buying adaptors, but decided against it as it'd mean shortening and/or remaking the inlet pipe from the tap to the SP50. Got enough to do at the moment without making things worse, although a braided hose would probably do the trick (actually I am finding I am using them just about every where  ).
