thought I would watch the Oz Top Gear tonite
no Clarkson on it bagging bikes you see
and
hmmm...
I watched (and as one who used to work in the industry)
my 2c
...continuity was crap (the girl with the camera should be shot) different lighting
in the snowfields was so amateur I went and made a coffee
the little bloke has no presence (whats his name again?) ...and he needs a shave
the interaction between Charlie and the other two is forced ..so forced its
embarassing and Charlie NEEDS a haircut
Charlie also has to...stop waving his hands in front of his face (why the director did
not stop this..has me beat)
AND
he has to stop talking like"wazzaisgunnagooutthereandgettheminiwith
ummmaaahhmeshandsumergeitinthewatersoff PortLincolnandswimmaybeswimorgeteatenbya
...ummgreatwhiteshark...IN A LOUD VOICE
thechallengeislaughable (geez even i can do it )
and
whoever picked the (which one is it?) airport for the drives should resign NOW
(the location man is an idiot) as should the DOP...coz having planes take off and
land and taxi while shooting car stuff is an idiot ...too!
it needs to improve 500% coz its a mess as a TV show
the car stuff on Ch31 is better than tonite's TG
will reserve further comment 'til next week
cheers

Too bloody right! You can't replace substance with volume. I don't think I could suffer another episode.
At least Clarkson is funny. If you don't laugh with him you can always laugh at him.

definately needs some major improvements! What was the idea with rushing a bunch of cars around the track without reviewing them or even showing any decent lap footage?? Now they have some numbers on their board but no idea about the cars that produced them!
Another thing that shit me was the fact that they had what is clearly one of their "project" cars sitting in the studio (same as UK's unbreakable hilux) yet they haven't even run the segment on it yet! They should have played the segment (or series of) and THEN sat the car in the background so we aren't sitting back wondering what the f*#k that monstrosity is in every studio shot.
I'll give it a second chance tho.

I enjoyed it but they were trying a little hard to be funny and it looked quite scripted. The young bloke was definatley trying too hard. They may settle in and get the hang of it. I'll keep watching.

Tight arse copy . Where was the tyre smoke ?
Poms have a 747 in the background we get a Cessna ! WoHoo .
And how much hair spray did that knob need to keep his 70s hair from showing how far back it has receeded ? No wonder he drives a Porsche (and at the speed limit )
Soft Cock effort

The dvd recorder is scheduled to tape it but didn't so I missed it

Given it's a rip off of the pommy show (and a poor rip off it seems) it's fair to say they have some lofty standards to meet. Concept is good but maybe they should have given it another name so as to lose the inevitable comparisons.

I only watched it for about 15 minutes but I thought they tried too hard to make it EXACTLY the same as the Pommie show and they tried too hard to be funny! Although it was funny when he jumped that car over the sand dune!

a show like top gear australia will always struggle to begin with because the original top gear is such a hoot...
and the reason that its a hot (IMO) is because of the relationships between the hosts.... we all like a little banter on here (a lot) and this is what makes the show great...
so its also going to be hard to get that combination going on the first show... sure they have been shooting segments for months but it still takes time...
im not so sure they should have got 3 personalities exactly like the uk show (loud and cock-sure, quiet and unassuming, young and a little bit hip) but there you go...
i think warren brown is a good choice because they need someone with tv precence... and he is the only one that has some at the moment...
i hope it does succeed and it was good to see the production values the same as the britich show... all the other car shows out here are basically just ads where they tell u everything you could read from the brochure...
i'll definitely be watching the whole series....
i do agree that the track was a little dodgy and that they should have shown us the layout...

Yep. yawns...
I was thinking it was the British team were coming out here, but I must have missed that bit.
Disappointing, but I will give them a few weeks to sort it, it does have some promising aspects though.
They should have changed the"Stigs" name to something else, he/she looks nothing like and doesn't drive anything like the real Stig and the test track looks ordinary. Where is that, Moorabin airfield?
Perhaps a good name would be the "Yob".....

I'll give it another go - I think they were trying too hard to be too much like the UK one instead of trying to follow the spirit of the show, so hopefully they'll settle down.
If you look at the early UK TopGear's the interaction between the presenters wasn't really any better, they had to settle in too. The guy they had before James May was useless.
But I agree about some of the comments on them - not sure I like the young guy, the old guy might be off on the wrong foot being a porsche nut, and the other guy keeps reminding me of Mario with that mou

I'll be watching next week.

PS. oh and yes - that test track is a joke

I read that the British Crew with Jeremy were coming to Australia later this year to do a stage show? Last night sucked. Very Amateur. Jeremy would have taken the piss out of that guy with the pink hair in the audience for sure. Nice locations but that was it.
Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:27 am
the mrs and I thought it sucked... We know it's a copy of TG UK.. BUT... to even have the same set, a airport run way for testing etc.. it was tooo much of a copy. There didn't seem to be much aussie flavour. The 3 presenters are complete tossers and seem to have forced everything they did. piss it off and keep the real TG on..
