Hope this is NOT too political to bring up on the forum

While I do understand anyone who feels like boycotting the upcomming olympics in China for the Tibetian situation, I do have difficulty accepting that Dawn Fraser, a person who wouldn't be the success that she's today if it wasn't for her achievements at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 & Tokyo in 1964.
In my opinion, of all people, an olympian therefore should have a greater understanding of what it means to all the other hopefulls to compeat at that level.
All I know is that if I was one of the selected athletes who sacrificed years of my life to get there and represent my country, and a person who was given a chance in her era said, that she is going to boycott the olympics, I would be pissed off to say the least...

She is a public figure, and as such she'll influence a number of peoples views.

How do you guys view this?

Watch out....Pete's had a few wines tonight..

I'd rather that he has had a few wines than to listen to you whine bitch!
Fair call Pete. As far as the athletes are concerned it is just about reaching the pinnacle of they're lives and I can't see too many of them standing on moral ground.

correct me if I am wrong (and I have seen an interview with Dawn on this matter) but at no stage has she said to boycott the olympics.

When questioned by the press Dawn was asked if she was going to the olympics, to which she replied "NO". From there the media has taken it out of context and added the words 'boycott'.
When Dawn was again confronted with the new headline she added that " at no time have I said that Australia should boycott the olympics, I am however just choosing not to go. I fought not to boycott Moscow and I will fight not to boycott Beijing if I have to, as it is a life long dream for an athlete to complete in the olympics and they should not be denied that if they have earned it."

The choice was apparently made based on health reasons combined with current political climate

If I was an athlete going to the games I'd be wrapped, Dawn Fraser annoys the shit outta me!
