Suggest keeping an eye out here:
http://www.graysonline.com.au/
They sell a truck load of pc's dirt cheap daily(I've brought 2)
Most will be sold from there & pumped back through Fleabay.

Dell had a 1.8Ghz C2D on special last week for $799 with a 19"LCD.
Someone here at work bought one upgraded with 2GB RAM/ 22" lCD instead, came in just over $1000.

Intel e4500, 19" screen, 160g hdd - $749 (del)
Intel e2180, 19" screen, 160g hdd - $699 (del)
Intel e2180, 19" screen, 320g hdd - $714 (del)
Intel e2160, 19" screen, 160g hdd - $679 (del)
Intel e2160, 19" screen, 320g hdd - $694 (del)

The rest of the specs are about the same.. 2gb ram, 20 speed burners etc..

Mate go Dell, Im more than happy with the quality of my laptop. Quick delivery, warranty, they were cheaper than the shops etc.

My dad had a super powerfull desktop built by some computer shop at North Rocks for a grand, and it's farked, always in for some issue or another, stick with a recognised brand is my recommendation. He's on his 3rd Hard drive in 18 months.

I run Vista, but most people have XP still, plus it's cheaper, although the security in Vista is pretty good though, it's always blocking dodgy shit, like Neka's posts

I think you can just buy the tower and save $$..but then again they do have a 24inch monitor option !

mikes-s option is good, i wonder if he is up for tech support if something flunks :D
I've always built my own, and hated saying 'buy from Dell' etc, but the fact is you have more fall back for warranty problems with a bigger comapny, your local pc shop may not be there tomorrow.
Sure MSY etc have there place, but most folks just want a pc that works, and this is where Dell, HN etc sell to.
Dell make bucket loads in the corporate sector too (we use them at work, as do many places).

I've heard some people bitch about cheap components in dell's, then again ive bought individual otherboards that were the nastiest peices of crap out there. But havent had that in a while as i pretty much stick to gigabyte / asus and haven't had a lemon from either of them yet.

regarding MSY they are ok, but you need to be aware what bits have failed, and get an RMA authorisation number from them before you can bring it back. or you could get them to build it for you. Personally i think the advantage of a white box system is you know exactly what goes into the thing.

They may, i can't comment on that.
A lot of pc parts are made in china anyway, Dell does get a lot of there stuff direct from China.

I always build my own.

Having said that, we use Dell and Lenovo at work. I've had experience with Dell, HP, Acer, IBM/Lenovo and white boxes. Dells are the easiest to support. Their support and warranty service is the best of the bunch, followed by Lenovo.
