Toshiba-Lap top, warranty and things.

Thu Jun 01, 2006 3:58 pm

I am onto my second Toshiba Laptop having upgraded for some newer goodies on the new one about 9 months ago. The first Toshiba laptop was with me until two weeks ago when it decided not to play. But I can still pull the hardrive out of it to retain the data so no worries.

But as luck would have it about 1 week after the original lappie died, my new one crapped itself. :x  :x Thankfully it was still under warranty!!

I rang Toshiba last Tuesday to discuss what happens now it's broken, and they immediately dispatched a courier who arrived within 30 mins of the first call to pick it up. All good so far.

I then get phone calls regularly from then till yesterday when they inform me it's fixed, they have retianed all my data, replaced the battery, Video card, and motherboard and a courier will drop it off at 9.30 Thursday. They also apologised repeatedly about the delay claiming they normally would have it back within two working days, but the parts wharehouse moved and had a backlog. :D It arrived as promised and on time.

I must say that I was impressed. It's the first time I have ever had an issue with a laptop, both my previous two Acer lappies were sound and the last Toshiba never had an issue either, so they must be reasonably reliable these days. But very happy to say that the after sales service offered by Toshiba will keep me coming back for another when I am ready to upgrade again. :D

Wow.... Lucky :)

Actually, I have not heard any bad things about toshiba recently... they used to make really shit laptops but a lot of the companies have come a long way recently...

IBM have fairly good service as far as the hardware goes, but they are well known for formatting people's hard drives....... Dell's service is ok, but sometimes takes too long (unless you are a corporate customer)...

Good result mate. My last two work lappy's have been Toshiba's and both have been sensational. I haven't had a problem with either and they regularly get tossed around in a backpack, on and off planes etc.

I qualify the above with the comment that I know shit all about electronic thinking boxes, I just use them...a lot.

If you want it, once we have deleted all my sensitive info  You can have it and we can work out some Contra for it so money doesn't have to change hands OK

I am going to pull one of those other new machines i have in boxes still, out and load some software on it and set it up as another office computer. Then I will load the brother driver again onto a clean sheet and see how it takes. Should be OK as it worked on both lappies.

BTW, a mate came over yesterday, and mentioned that I can buy a device (@$45) that I can pull the Hard Drive outta the old lappie and plug it into this USB thingo and it will read the hard drive??????

Yup... easy and pretty cheap all things considered... (about $40 from epower) remember to specify that you want a 2.5 inch external enclosure for a hard drive...
