My Track day vids

Hey everyone, I did a track day last Saturday at Mallala, SA and recorded some on-board footage.

The filesize is big (10mb) so I've cut the clips down to single flying laps.

I had my handycam under the passenger seat, recording from a seperate lens I bought off Ebay for $27.

are the first two links exactly the same file or do they simply have exactly the same name?

Ok for fuck sake surely it cannot be my computer this time. I entered the bloody number and hit the button and it said Invalid Code. WTF????? :evil:

try and click on the submit button instead of hitting enter. that is what I had to do ! I also got the invalid code error at first

Same file, 2 download locations.
People were having trouble downloading the files on another forum so I uploaded the vids several times.

plasma blue - I was in the slower kneescrapers group, there's only so fast you can go on a 4-stroke 250 :lol: , my PB is a 1:29.9 in January this year, I didnt record any of my laps from last Saturday as I was working on correct lines, body positioning and throttle control and experimenting with a few other aspects of my riding I wasnt happy with.

I've started to look around the auctions for something I can use as a track bike, and I'll be picking up a lap timer soon as me and a friend are keen on getting into bracket racing this year.

Heheh I was looking at the vid going "ok... I can see the 180 and the 200 on the clock, and the revs are very high, why isnt the needle showing up?" Also explains why those guys were pulling away from you...

I've hit an indicated 190km\h on that back 'straight' in previous days, but like I said, my focus was on smoothness and lines. Those videos aren't my best laps by far, in the rear-view lap I stuffed up turn 2 and untill I got through turn 5 I had a CBR1000RR (of all things) holding me up :lol:

I'll go through my tapes and try and find a nice clean lap to post up.

Looking fairly smooth there - but i have a question ... you seem to avoid down-changing for most of the braking until the last moment, is that considered the normal way of doing things? Generally when i'm blasting around the place i do down-changes progressively whilst i brake and keep the revs up more ? Plus it stops me from locking the rear ...

Anyone able to set me straight ?

I leave downshifting till later in the braking as it allows me more room for error, I can focus on the hardest part of braking, and as I ease off the brakes to get my entry speed I downshift then as I have more attention to spend on slipping the clutch smoothly and getting on the gas for the turn. It just works for me.

If downshifting from the start works for you then do it, every riders style is different and what works for me might be terrible for someone else.
At my first track day I began downshifting straight away and I had big problems with rear wheel chatter and compression lock.

You only need to be in the correct gear once you start accelerating, so it doesnt really matter if you shift sooner or later, as long as it gets done :)

I should add that quite a few of the turns at Mallala do require hard braking, if I was washing off abit of speed going into a sweeping turn then it's most likely I'd downshift just after I got on the brakes.

When I go for rides in the hills with friends I tend to downshift much sooner, as you describe, to keep the bike in the powerband and suit the medium-fast flowing nature of the roads.

Out on the track I have different goals than I do with street riding, so I change my style to suit, and what gets me the best results.
