Anyhoo, by about 2.30 I had cabin fever, so asked the bride if she wanted to go out for a coffee. The answer was a resounding NO! So i took the liberty of sneaking out for a quick head clearer!

I jumped on the West gate, and then trolled out the Dullamarine fwy. As I approached the exit of the calder/Tulla Jnctn, and was attempting to exit to the left to stay on the Tulla, A dear little old lady in a Mazda Protege` decided to pull out from being totally stopped in the emergency lane. near the bulla road exit.........across four lanes of heavy tin top traffic! FAARK!

I had nowhere to go, so I just went with her! Luckily for me, and her I suppose, the majority of those in the path had made space for her, and I managed to thread the needle without playing bumper bikes either!

Went wound the wing woad to the Greensborough By-pass where just before the Plenty Rd exit, I spotted a familiar looking White Helmet/Red Jacket combo. As I pulled closer, I noticed that the bike make matched who I thought may be the rider so i pulled alongside. The upside down forks where the giveaway, and we both pulled over for a chat before heading off again.
As I must have looked like crap, the unnamed rider also told me to take it handy as balance is effected by shit like the flu! This advice was later to prove invaluable. Thanks Mr. New TZ.

Then to Diamond Ck and up to Kinglake. The Journey up this road was interesting as usual with the tin tops all trying to make us much room for the many bikes as poss, and some of the bikes doing there very best dickhead impressions by
1. Overtaking in hairpin right hander, without a chance of seeing oncoming traffic (I should know,...as he never saw me! ) Honda CBR600RR in red. and
2. (and this was perhaps the best one) an MV Augusta F4 chasing his mate on a VFR overtaking around the outside of a car, on a blind left hander, with double yellows pretty obviously marked!
The First dude on the RR, forced me onto the very edge of the road, so that the bars were moving around a lot going from tar to dirt and back again! Luckily those Renthals do make it easy in the dirt. And even then his big helmeted bonce nearly tapped the bar end.

But the MV took the cake. Those who have ridden with me know I stay way left on the tight stuff to open the corners up and keep running wide wankers away. (I am still shy after those two head ons I had) And luckily so. Heading into a 3rd gear right hander for me, I was almost at the apex when I noticed a set of motorcycle wheels on the other side of an oncoming car I stood the Hornet up as much as I could with just enough room for the layed reasonably over MV to slide under me, and luckily had enough time and room to tip it back over again to complete the turn.

Heart rate must have been a tad strained at this point. I checked the seat out when I got home and there doesn't appear to be any permanent ballon knot marks

Thankfully the run from here on was almost perfect. I went across from Kinglake to Kinglake West and then turned left back to Whittlesea and then across to Donnybrook and back down the Hume to the Wing Woad again! Only about 200klms all up and apart from the few little moments....nice and head clearing!
