V Twin under 735cc

Guys & Gals

My younger brother who has more dollars than sense wants to embark on the ultimate ridable quad project. He wants to remove the motor from his YFZ450 and fit something with a bit more get up and go. We figure to make it usable it needs to be either a single or v twin so that its not warming your legs when you ride. He also wants to race it in the supermotard series which means it has to be less than 735cc. As a twin will generally make more power than an equivalently worked single I thought about the SV650 or Hyosung motor but if anyone has any other suggestions we're open to them. I think a parallel twin would be too wide but it may be an option.

Cheers

Another Michael

go measure an engine from a TRX850
great engine (rest of bike is crap)

or if you have lots of $$$

Supermotard quad. They are only in 4 of the 6 rounds of the series this year and hope to get a look in at the Homebush round at the end of the year. They're lowered and run Hoosier or American Racer tyres. He is currently having bigger front discs fitted with Wilwood calipers. He knows he doesn't have the sheer talent to win but if he can have a big power motor, good brakes and suspension then he might have a chance.

This is a link to a race held at the Spa circuit in Belguim.

Thanks Yoda but it has to be less than 735cc. Otherwise he'd probably put a 749 motor in it. His current motor (which has had a lot of work done to it) puts out almost 60hp and the SV has 70 standard which with exhaust, filter, head work and cams should go close to 90. Yes he is looking for some big numbers but there is a bloke running around with an R1 motor in one. He can't race that but you get the idea.

if he's got lots of money.
trx850.
shorten the stroke.
a bit of work to the valves, head, manifold, etc and u've got a rock solid motor that'll scream it's tits off.
shorter stroke = slower piston speed at any given rpm.
or higher rpm at any given piston speed.

What about an air cooled 500cc two stroke triple
It'd be an interesting project and make a sensational noise.

 hmm, well OK, it sure sounds a bit*odd*, but I guess anything goes these days.....

If he really can afford it, the TRX motor is fantastic for a twin. I chased some big fat lardarse up one of our local scratchers roads a couple years ago, the bloody thing went like a scalded cat.......if you dropped the stroke a bit, it would rev even higher :P :P

you don't have many V-twins that make great HP, the SV would *probably* be the best of the bunch......maybe even an old Pantah motor would be a good bet ?? you can get them to *boogey* when you throw a shitload of money at them.......(like most motors really...)

Good luck.

im pretty sure hyosung are using suzi motors anyway....

i kno this prob doesnt make sense, but wot abt a cruiser motor??
some of the cruisers are pushing the 750cc and may be able to be found as a writen off bike?? maybe they can juice one up??

hmm or a 660cc tt motor......or just buy the kwaka 700cc v twin...
