i want to have a little rant
there i was riding in the right hand lane at the speed limit keeping a safe distance from the car in front(but not enough room for a car to jump in) when this old greyhaired man driving next to me starts to move over in to my lane, he didnt even look or signal! what was worse is that as i got outta the situation he just keeped on going into the lane as if I had never been there, he didnt crap him self and go back into his lane he just keeped movin over! It really pissed me off coz i have only been riding a short while and aint that confident in peak hr traffic at the best of times
anywayz my rant is finished
i feel much better

 glad you got out of that OK  did ya blast him on the horn ??

In my younger days, that sort of shit scored most drivers an immediate mirror removal.........in the immortal words of Fred Gassit......

" Not Usin' It........Won't Be Needin' It !!"

That sorts them out pretty quick

use it or lose it baby....
i have gloves with carbon knuckles..i find leaning iver and knocking on the window, while dangerous, is quite arousing for those driving whilst asleep/getting blowjobs...

other option is kicking a door panel, but that can throw ur weight off if u kick too hard....

alternatively, anticipating dick heads like that can help u survive....\

u lived, thats good..get use to it, there out there.....and learn to deal with it safely..ull live longer...

Lisa
it happen to me twice on the weekend
once i was partly to blame just shot up the inside to quick
second time 200 mts up the road i stopped next to the car, rode around the round about with the car and he still moved over without looking

to which i told him what a wonderful bloke he was and thanked him for the taking his blind dog for a drive ion the way to the pyshio to get his neck fixed

have to admit this seems to happen quite often
i'm a lot camer these days (they call it road rage now) and i dont get off the bike and remove mirrors not being used and windows cause there up

pays not to sit next to anyone
stay safe

sounds like he needed a mirror removal for sure.

Ive kicked a couple doors in my time - these days i just try to avoid the traffic if possible - they are too stupid.

Glad you came out of it ok Lisa, just take it as a heads up that as others say, they're out there unfortuinately and as for indicators, very few cagers even use them for turning much less just for changing lanes...

Beware the older they are the worse they are too and if they have a big/fancy car, tey're worse still. Mercs etc believe that because I have an expensive car you need to give way and the big ones just don't give a feck because of their size and also probably much bigger blind spots to go with it.

Best thing to do when riding behind someone is ride in their rh/lh mirror, doesn't always work but works more often thant not, does nada for this scenario where old codger decides he wants your piece of lane though alas.

that's what i did last time, i wasn't wearing a pair of gloves, and i punched the car's boot lid and bloody hell  it hurt more to my fist than anything else but trust me i did get his attention after all.

I might sound risky but if there is heaps of room in front of you and your beside the drivers door < Not their boot > speeding up and pulling away is the option I prefer. I always leave heaps of room in front too and if you use a bit the prick will see you as soon as you pull ahead. Hit the brakes and pull back and you go deeper into the blind spot and you may not have time to check if someone has crawled up your arse.

If in doubt -power out. :)

This technique is especially useful where semi-trailers are involved.

After removing one mirror and having an acching hand i came up with another way to dish out some vigilante justice.
Take out the screw that holds the toe slider/protector on your boots and replace it with the apropriate sized round head phillips screw. If you then bur it slightly so that the corners of the cross are sharp you can run your boot down the side of there car and leave a nice long expensive scratch. They won't even know you have done it. Which does defeat the purpose a little but it will make you feel better.

I tend to try to sit in front of or behind cars rather than being surrounded because they do move over on you even if you are in a car.

A lot of drivers get tunnel vision at certain times of day especially when they are going home from work.

Just have to watch that while getting in front of the heard and into your own space is really driving defencively it can put you in a prime spot for police rader hey neka. :D

im a stiff for the "Keep left Unless Overtaking" rule...
stay in the left lane, when you get to a car get around and back infront quick. or just stay behind :)
traffic sux on a bike.

My dad told me once that he thinks everyone should have to get their license on a bike, then go to car after a year.
so then they see what goes on and are better drivers because of it.

Good job to keep yourself ouuta the poo Lisa. Getting agro with old blokes does nothing any way.

Always keep your buffer ie when the car is on the left of you stick to the right hand wheel track so that if he does move, youve got space which equals time to get out of there, and spend as little time as possible beside them.

Cheers

Rant away Lisa...

We've all been there and we'll all be there again. As everyone else has said above, just try and not be there when they move across.

Glad you're okay.

During my time riding I would have to guestimate that this has happened to me more than 2000 times....

Although it is up to THEM to indicate and look... they simply dont...

The best advice I was ever given was "Ride as if everyone is out to kill you"... That piece of advice has saved my life many times....
