Owning nice fast car vs nice bike+shitbox

Postby shane » Tue Jan 31, 2006 6:35 pm

Hey guys im a n00b here (obviously ;) ) and i wasn't sure if i should introduce myself first or put this into the introductions forums but being a rather unpopulated forum ill assume any topic is welcome to keep the place active, ive bought my topic here because ill be getting a kwaka if i get a bike and i got my first name as my username kick ass and easy to remember.

Anway down to my question ive got a need a need you are most likely familiar with it involves adrenaline and acceleration - now i have drawn my situation down to this.. I either get a 200sx (s14a for those in the know) and have a nice fast ride as far as cars go myself and others can enjoy OR i get a roadbike and a pretty regular cheap car for when i need it, So what i need to and want to hear is something like this "Get someone to take you for a ride and you will be laughing at the perfomance of cars and be hooked for life it feels like you are free blah blah" Im hoping a couple of people here have faced this dilemma before and have some advice for me :)
FYI i am 19 in march and have only ever ridden my mates postie for about half an hour but it was awesome i have read up a lot on bikes but im in a real hard decision making moment.. i guess i did post the question here though and not on a car forum so my mind is kinda made up i just need a litttle encouragement to push me over the edge and get my ass into gear.

Sorry if this is badly composed ive just worked 8 days- first day off tommorow so im drunk and tired.

I have a bike that would struggle to reach 160km/h, and a car that does a claimed top speed of 230km/h. The bike is more fun. End of story. I've also driven a few other fancy/sports cars that friends/colleagues have been silly enough to let me have a play with (eg Alfa 147 Selespeed, Mazda MX5, Merc S class) - nothing comes close to a motorbike for fun factor in my humble opinion.

If I had my time over again, I wouldn't have bothered with getting anything remotely fancy for a car, and put that money into getting a bike sooner and getting a nicer bike once off my Ls/Ps.

I agree with zx9r King. I suggest get a cheap reliable basic and unpretentious car that does well what cars are good at and what bikes are crap at. Eg, carrying shit around, (maybe a wagon) comfortable in bad weather (ie not a convertible), something you can take your mates out in (ie something with at least four doors). Don't worry about anything fast - a bike makes any car seem slow.

Then with all the money you save, you can get a really brilliant bike and really enjoy yourself.

mate..a 250 will blow most cars off at the line..up to abt 80kph....or thereabouts...

i had a similar decision when i was 21...i enjded up with a crappy work van..sold my car (cortina) cos i wanted a bike..got a zx6r..and ive never been a car guy since.....cars are handy yes (as zx9r said- beer carrying, grocery carrying, girl carrying) ...
mate bikes blolw off cars....u can pay $7k for a bike that will break 11sec...find a $7k car that will do that..and lift the front wheel..and scrape pegs going round corners....greeny use to b a car nut..ask him...

I've been into cars all my life.. mainly rotaries :)

I had a Eunos 30x which i adored and swore black and blue i'd never sell... even though i was under pressure to do so

I had the 250 for 6 months, bought the zx6 home and sold the car

Now i still don't have a car, but I'm buying another bike.. I figured most ppl have car and bike, so I'll just have 2 bikes :D

Do i want a car? no.. I get by.. and the fun i get out of my bike far outweighs the benefits of car ownership :)

even though this place is unpopulated as you called it, you'll find that there are always lots of posts to read :)

Mate I suggest you do a quick search in here, there was a post not so long ago about car V bike, in a nutshell you can buy a $250000 Ferrari, Porsche etc and wait 6 months to get it, try and insure it etc etc and you still won't even go close to a $17000 bike straight of the showroom floor!!!

So no offence intended mate but unless you plan on spending mega mega bucks and converting you're 200sx into the next best thing to a race car (which ya couldn't get on the road any way), you're still never gunna get the thrill and fun of of a quick twist of the wrist on a bike!!

Echo all the above, when I used to commute to work even on my 180cc scooter I would be overtaking BMW's, Ferrari's etc, and this was a 4.5k bike brand new vs 250k Ferrari's etc, yeah they looked more impressive but I still got to work far quicker :)

Get a Series II VN Dunneydore on gas - it will outlast your grandchildren and get you around easy. Buy a ZZR250, 1995-model onwards, and learn on that. Then trade the 250 in on a late-model ZX6.

Your life is now complete.........

oh, and welcome to the madhouse.........

the bike.
ur only 19 so have a shitta car for a while then buy a better car in a few yrs if u feel the urge. bang for buck bikes are better. my bro is just about to buy one after having a car for 6 months and i dont have a car and my dad just bought another bike. so yes buy the bike, they are as addictive as crack.

plus chics think ur dangerous and thats cool. ahaha

Get yourself a used 250cc ZZR. You'll know the answer before you are allowed to ride something bigger ;)

ok well im 20 loved cars all my life and bieks aswell

now i woudl say do teh bike, get a shitter which u can slowly mod to make a sleeper

look a biek is way better than a car anyday, jsut be warned it is addictive and u may find yourself having sick days to ride, well ist teh only cure for not feeling good.....

anyways, if u get a decent 250 u cant ahve so much fun on it and even beat a few cars off teh lights, and through teh corners u will shit on them, jsut find soem nice roads and your set....
