Well, took one look at the 12R and nows it's my new baby. Holy snapping duck shit the thing has some torque. The only thing I have noticed is it hunts a bit at idle. Will get a service done next week which prob fix it. Fingers crossed. Hey 12R pilots, what sort of Ks do you get out of a full tank?

I guess i will have to make good on the other baby now as well. Sigh

Is this a brand-new bike ? Shouldn't hunt at idle at all when new, but they are pretty 'lumpy' cams when all is said and done

They chew fuel really badly when running in, I have done about 4800k so far, and it is now getting around 250km per 'tank' ( I have not run it to the last litre.....), but this is stop-start riding, not highway - I think you could stretch it out to 300km on a trip......

Well done on getting the 12, they are just a fantastic bike......

Hope its not the 12000km service   -This is the first 'big' service they get, shims etc. The AMCN issues that covered the first model also included some good references to the importance of replacing the airfilters - apparently this did a great deal to improve the 'feel' of the test-hack that they were using at the time.....

mmm It seems to very well looked after by both previous owners, the guy i bought from only did 2000 ks in two years. I have done half that in the three days I've had it. He could not find all the services papers as he was moving house. Got a mate of a mate's doing the shims and a major service on it some time this week. Also might reload the map for the PC. I dont know squat about power commanders, is it possible the current mapping is causing the hunting?

2000k in 2 years   shit I had done that in 3 months just riding to work..........

But if it has a good service history then that is a promising start.

Hope your mate knows what he is doing with the shims, its a right prick of a job, very tight under that tank :x .

You should check out http://www.zx-12r.org - Go to the zx12 forums, and type in 'power commander' in the 'search this thread' option. I think there are lots of 'issues' with PCIII's, but until I fit one myself, its all based on information provided by other players.......

These guys have been playing with 12's for 5+ years, and there is a shitload of information there - I always check there before buying anything or seek opinions from the US boys, they are a pretty decent bunch to deal with, on the whole.....

mates mate is a race mechanic for moto arena here on the coast, so i have faith.

I'm just reading the 12r org forums as we type. Whats the easiest way to get to the air filters? Did not come with a user manual and cant find one online.

cheers

send a pm to Scotty37 (Jonno) - if you ask him nicely, I am sure he will send you a CD of the manual - He did a few some months ago for a few of us. - Sent them out for free ( top bloke) and it has come in pretty useful. You need to take the tank 'cover' off, then lift the tank etc etc, once you have gotten in there its pretty easy.

I don't have a burner, so can't do one myself for you

If ya mate spanners for a race team, you'll be sweet.

Give it the berries  they thrive on 9k +++++

An older 12 I rode once was pretty snatchy on and off the throttle, bit of a problem with a lot of the older fuel injected bikes. The newer models don't have the same problem.
