i dont quite understand how this effects most pocketbikes :? i'd have thought that most pocketbikes
1- have a normal throttle
2- have brakes that work on the front and rear
3- have foot pegs
4- are able to TURN

if they dont meet these requirements, i wouldn't think anyone would buy them :?

I think basically the deal is that they were already made illegal to ride in public as they need to be registered but cannot actually be registered (very clever). This new law is aimed at the seller's not the buyers (cutting them off at the source and all that Jazz).

PS. I hate the bloody things

It's mainly to do with the brakes they are not compliant when one side of the caliper is stationary and the other moves the disk and bends/warps it...

The foot pegs is because the dont hold the weight, and bend str8 down, I sat on one in the office and did exactly that, my foot hit the floor.

The throttle doesn't return properly and the forks are as loose as someones mother on a Saturday drinking binge....

They wouldn't let me do burnouts in the conference room either the barstards....

cheers

That is unbelievable !!!! So even if I had, say a basketball court on a farm, and wanted to ride one in the peace and quite of my own Private Property, it would not be possible, because I could not purchase one in the first place ???

What happened to democracy ? Freedom of Choice ???? The need to ensure that these 'vehicles;' are only used on private property is the responsibility of the appropriate authorities - wow, I cannot believe that the government down there simply 'bans' whatever it doesn't like ???

I am stunned

The government bans whet is considered dangerous - if your kids were hurt because the thing had worse brakes than a Hardly, you'd want to know why it was on sale in the first place. You get what you pay for and $500 doesn't buy much bike

If that was true, the government would ban WRX's for sale to P platers, jetskis, every single weapon found in a gunshop, and XXXX by the slab !! :D

I hear what your sayin', but surely it's no different to putting your kids on a small capacity second-hand trail-bike ? Or a skateboard if you live in a hilly suburb ? $500 doesn't buy much bike, OK there is no argument there either, but if you are happy with the government simply doing a big knee-jerk to ban these 'toys', and that is all they are, then I fear for democracy - it is dissapearing out the window.

I honestly believe that Dr David Cousins, who recommended the Ban Order, has either (a) treated too many injuries as a result of prangs on these things, or (b) has a couple of neighbours who own them, and zoom up and down the street at all hours, or (c) is just opposed to them on principle.

Who the hell is he to tell me, or anyone really , what is 'safe' for us ? That is our choice to make as responsible free-thinking adults. Isn't it ?

They fine people up here for traffic offences, they don't ban the vehicle from being sold :? but we do have porn and fireworks

Off the soapbox now

cheers :D

Having had another read of that Order, it would seem to me ( I am no lawyer, but deal with about 4 Commmonwealth Acts every day in my normal job - for like 15 years  ) that if you had a bike that DID comply with all said requirements, then you should in theory still be able to sell one ??

Nevertheless, the following article lifted from current AMCN sure puts another view about banning things :

A Colac motorcyclist faces being banned from riding his own motorcycles on his own property. A proposed law in the Colac Otway Shire will ban the " Use of recreational vehicles" within a 500m radius of an adjoining dwelling, leaving ******** ****** and his family with nowhere to ride their bikes on their 1.2 ha property.

The Shire's definition for a recreational vehicle inlcudes trailbikes, minibikes, motor scooters, go-karts and 'monkey bikes'. Colac Otway Shire CEO Tracey Slatter said that anyone with concerns about the proposed laws should provide feedback to the Council.

So there you go. Banned on your own land. Perhaps.
