Help please - Idle adjuster cable.

Hi all, this is my first time posting in KSRC and this is not how I wanted to introduce myself, but I am kinda in a predicament @ the moment and hopefully someone can help me out.
Long story short, I was playing at the idle adjuster because the idling on my zx7r seems a bit low, I must have opened it too much because the next thing I know, the whole cable came right off. I've took off the tank and airbox to hopefully find where I can re-connect the cable but I can't seem to find it nor does reading the manual helps.
I don't know how often this happens to people, but this is pretty embarrassing as well as depressing watching my bike sitting in the shed because of a stupid error on my part. Anyway, any/all help, advice, condolences :roll:, will be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum mate, bit unfortunate that, but stick with us and someone will sort you out.

I can't, I'm A '9 rider but there are plenty of 7 riders here.

You may have to wait for them to come home from work though :lol: :lol: :lol:

Got a 6R myself, but quick question. When you say the cable came out does it have the threaded bit on the end or not? If it doesn't have the threaded rod at the cable end you've got problems. I'm assuming of corse that your carbies are similar to a 6R.

Thanks for replying mate. Fortunately, the thread at the end of the cable is still there, the gorilla in me must have been sleeping that day :D .
The picture you posted is very helpful. Couple questions:
1. There seems to be a spring where the cable connect to the carbie, do I need it? because I must have lost it when the cable came out.
2. Can I re-attach the cable to the carbie without taking out the whole carbie assembly? At the moment, the tank and the air filter box are already out.
3. The carbie in the picture, is it no. 2 or 3?

1. Yes. The spring stops the screw from vibrating around and changing the setting.
2. Mabye a little fiddly but I can't see why not.
3. Thats no.1 All the carbies were still together, just hidden by end on pic.

Speaking of the idle adjustment i played with myn probably something i shouldnt have done, well not as much as i did casue now it dont start lol
Ive got a zxr250 yes yes a baby just curious as to how many turns does it roughly adjust out from all the way in to get an average idle any1 know. thanks

Welcome champ. Trial & error it mate, put it out in the sun till lunch time to warm the block then adjust it from fully closed out a coupla turns each time till it starts, half choke blip throttle hard once & dont touch throttle again till it coughs into life, wind it out another coupla turns & repeat till it fires.
Then get it nice & warm & set it too where it sounds right, on a little screamer like the zxr250 I'd suggest about 1300 - 1500rpm when hot, the other thing you can do is adjust your throttle cable near the grip by the tensioner to max 3mm travel at idle. Sorry i cant be more specific. But this should get you there & give you the know how to re do it when necessary.

Ok thanks for that ill try it tomorow weather permitting. So 1300 to 1500 ok cool becasue it was idleing when warm below 1000. And that did seem way to low.

Cheers for that, the throttle cable and I'd suspect the idle adjuster cable connection for my 7r are right in the middle between carbie no. 2 and 3, so a little fiddling around I guess. Anyway, you've been a big help; very much appreciated mate. Now I just have to get my hands on the spring and my bike should be back on the road :lol:.

i got one from a wrecker - they arnt to keen to bust up carbs that can be sold as a unit but if they have some that are cactuc they should take the idle udjuster out and give you the spring and washer.

a new one from kawasaki was over $130 :roll: :shock:

$130 bucks :shock:, you gotta be kidding! What I planned to do was to find a washer and spring that will fit throught the cable thread and screw it back onto the carbie. It's just a washer and spring right? do we really need to get 'genuine' Kwaka stuff for this, or am I missing something :?
