How is it to defeat these things? There surely be a way (fastag comes to mind, but it's too obvious)

I hope you're wrong, because I come off Henry Lawson Dr on to Milperra Rd every morning and the road is dead empty so I give the SS a punch up through 1st,2nd and 3rd. Ooops

I'll check the power poles tomorrow morning

I don't know where it comes from, either, but seeing how I remember seeing this list of locations as a fax printout pinned to the corkboard at the Pizza Hut where I was a delivery driver back when I had my TE Gemini in, wait for it, 1997, I can tell you approximately_when_it came from.

or if it is accurate.

Well, in one way, it is extremely accurate, as locations like

Hume Hwy, Bass Hill
Miller Rd to Chester Hill Rd North East Strickland St to Arundel St
South West

do have speed cameras installed, and have done for years. Back around the time this started circulating, the list of locations would've been a list of locations where the RTA had preliminarily decided (eight years later, there's still no camera on the Hume Highway in Liverpool, so there's obviously been some review).

What's most likely happened is, someone leaked the list and, to help it propagate, people near the start of the chain had prepended and appended it with black-helicopters shit like,

They are very small, don't use a flash and will
be working day and night.

and

THESE CAMERAS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN FIXED POSITIONS. THE FILM IS CHANGED EVERY 2 WEEKS.

As Public Enemy said once, don't believe the hype.

Actually I think it might be bullshit. I do Windsor Rd Northmead,O'Connel St Parramatta Pitt St Merrylands and Milperra Rd Milperra to and from work every day, which means I go through four each way to work. At 3 points for 0-15 over these days I could have potentially lost my license twice a day every day. Fortunately I think I still have 12 little stars intact.

What ever happened to the rules that cameras must be pre-pended by signs advising that there is a camera ahead?

and if these are fixed, then they can only take pictures of the front ? No problemo if this is the case. Give 'em the bird

I reckon it may have come from here:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/sp ... index.html

They even have a nice map showing you where they all are. Circa 2003.

Then there are other sites that have more accurate and timely information. Companies such as Road Angel use these lists to help, umm, to help you avoid accidents.

Slow down everyone. I believe at best it is BS.

#1 - I have confirmed though someone who knows, that YES. All fixed speed camera locations must have 3 signs before the camera.
#2 - There is a reason why the fixed cameras have a big arse flash and it is to enusre the vehicle/driver can be identified.
#3 - The fixed cameras are so big because they take buckets of photos per day, when they are emptied every two weeks, you can imagine the amount of film it has used. No covert camera could carry that much film.
#4 - Why not digital. Because digital photos are not admissable as evidence (although a new technology is out that hopes to overcome this).
#5 - I live right near one of these roads and I can say with confidence there is no camera there.

Like I said, I don't know where it came from and I doubted its accuracy. It was purely for your own entertainment/reference.

I'm fairly certain the ones used in the ACT are digital

Yeah, but kids in ACT can smoke dope, buy porn and blow up stuff with fireworks. Concerns about photoshoping legal evidence must be off the radar down there

For F3 users note that there IS a new camera installed between Mooney Mooney and Mt White. I believe it will be activated when they get around to changing the speed limit of the 90 zone.
