I have only been fully licensed for only a month and no-one will insure me for my ZZR600 except for Western QBE for $947.00
If this is correct, no body on L or P Plates in NSW can be comprehensively insured

Depending on age, experience and car rating, insurance is stupidly expensive.
I'm 32 ride a CBR600 and have a fairly low rating, my fully comp is just over $1000. When I got my first sports bike in UK I was in my early 20's, and fully comp was over 1000 pounds (I went Third Party Fire & Theft).
Aus does have an advantage over England though (insurance wise before the smart arses comment), in that rating are transferable car to bike. In UK they are seperate until it comes to accidents.

Have you tried Swann, they're supposed to specialise in bikes, also Arista and Shannons, although these are better if you don't commute I believe.
Good Luck

To be honest, having once owned a ZZR600, I wouldn't go anywhere near one with L or P plates on the back of it, but thats not an issue in SA as were still on the 250cc for a year restriction for L's and P's.
As far as insurance companies are conserned, the equation is simple. Age Bracket + Driving/riding experiance + age and model of vehicle + past insurance reccord = Premium/excess
So of course an 18-21 year old male who's had his licence a month is going to attract a higher premium when riding a 600cc sportsbike, because stastistically (gota love those things) he's more likly to give it a fistfull and not have the experiance to keep the rubber side on the ground.
Having said all of this, I found that when under 25, western was my best bet (and yes, it DID cost me over $1000, in SA with a new TT600), as soon as I turned 25, Arista was the best option (they don't insure under 25's). I'll be researching shortly though to see if this is still the case as my policy comes up for renewal in a few weeks.

JJ - that's a good deal!

same situation but on a '02 636 and the premium was more than that! (I went through Swann/QPR). As soon as you hit 1 year's experience (and if you're over 40) Arista is a good bet.

Morden,
Who said i was 18 to 21.
I'm 32 years old with a wife and two kids, i'm not on my L's or P's as I have held a gold drivers licence for 12 years and if you hold a gold licence in NSW and are over thirty, you graduate from L's to full licence. I am a responsible person who sits at 6'1 and weight 110 kg, and a 250 just couldn't run the commuting i am doing without a sound resembling a model plane, not to mention my kneecap shaped earmuffs.
PS, i still have all my points, zero crashes and full NCB, my own car fully insured for the last ten years, fully owned 00 and 04 models now.
In other words, i'm not a squid and i do understand insurance which is why i don't understand why only one insurance company will insure me. While they all fight to insure my cars.

Hmmmm try insuring Driving School motorcycles......only one insurer will touch them- some bizarre offshore company (Heritage Classic Insurance, in WA) in Cayman Islands I think......they knocked me back coz I have had 5 no-fault claims in the last five years.......and I am a bad risk because of it. I begged them to reconsider because no insurance, no Q-Ride, and they accepted me......with a $2500 excess if the client is under 25......
Stupid really because you get the students to a reasonable level off-road before putting them on road in motorcycle training. Wouldn't hurt some car driving learners to start the same way I have found.
If I need to claim, I think I will be paying for the costs myself, just to maintain the insurance, and thus Q-Ride. (haven't applied yet- will soon.)
I have never had a student hit anyone while I have been training...I hope that continues.....my GN250 is remote controlled though- I can kill the engine with a remote key...handy coz I can't run as fast as even a GN250....

Its really silly bike insurance we all need it and the price is such that even though you have it, if for some unforseen reason you drop the bike you cant afford to make a claim on it anyway.
I made one claim on my green tyre incident 500meteres from the shop but after that i had a incidental lowside that was realy a 50/50 thing but if I claimed on that one I would have been pushing to get insurance next year I reckon so I wore that one myself.
Well whats the point of having insurance if your fixing the bike yourself anyway?
I supose its a good thing if you tbone a bmw or something but with a bit of experiance that shouldnt happen either but you never know.

I'm 23 and I got full comp insurance with NRMA and full NCB on my L's (now on P's), but I have been listed as a car driver with them for several years.

Well without looking at your profile, I wouldn't know how old you are, and I wouldn't know anything of your driving history. However, the thing to remember with bikes is the while having a car insured will get you to a rating one (as long as you can get insurance), you'll find that your experiance will count for nothing when it comes time to calculate your excess, as bikes and cars are very diferent machines ( a fact i'm sure you and everyone else here is well awear of).
Having clarified your age (and whatever the hell this gold licance thing is) though, i'd get a quote from Arista (
http://www.icfrith.com.au ). You'll probably find the excess IS more , but the premium would likly be cheaper.

I use GIO insurance for my bike. They are so good. When my wife rang around for me they were the cheapest and they are really good to deal with.
