1991 ZZR600 Idle level

Postby tersaki600 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 4:10 pm

Hi all,

Have just had my bike serviced & feel that it is idling to high.

The sound & vibration is great but the fuel economy sucks big one.

Am going to be heading on a highway trip in the coming weeks.

Is there a standard idle level?

Currently idling about 1650 revs.

Appreciate your assistance.

There should be a knob you can twist on the left of the bike to set it down. I'll look it up when I'm home, but I'm thinking 900 is more like it.

Oh, and fast idle will not affect fuel consumption to a great extent - you'll need to find what's up with that...

1300 rpm plus or minus 50 (1250-1350) with the engine warmed up. If your choke slide is sticky it can cause a high idle and more fuel consumption.
Check that the choke is all the way off at the carbs, then adjust the idle down and see how it goes.
