Not sure about this idea...

So I run a small niche business from home, with customers all over the country. I have always used the policy of expecting the best of people, so I send the "merch" with an invoice and trust that they will pay. When I decided to do it this way, I did expect to lose a few, and that is ultimately okay I guess. The fact that I have had 100% return rate till now should make it easier to accept but somehow I'm cranky that there is now this one cow in Paddington (NSW) that has not paid and is not responding to my calls messages etc - guess she's wondering what I will do next? It's not a lot of money ($195) but I wondered...

What if 2 or 3 of my good Kawasaki biking buddies pitched up on her doorstep, and in a totally friendly and non-threatening way say "Brett asked me to give this to you!" handing a copy of the invoice. Wonder what she'd do?

Or maybe I should just leave it.

Grumbles...

Send her an email/letter telling her your giving her non payment to an agency for collection and will be recording it as a default thereby crapping up her credit history. Probably won't make a difference but you never know.

They look good, No recovery, no charge can't complain about that.

Did learn in a previous job at a bookstore that "possession is 9/10ths of the law" has some truth to it. If you send goods without getting funds or being a secured creditor the police can't help you .

You can chuck 1831 before her number and she can't see who is calling.

If you are going to continue doing business you can buy a book from Prushka which contains warning letter and if no response you send notice of collection form and inform prushca of this action then if nothing happens then they go and get it.These guys are persistant and hound people .I think they were even on TV as some people complained about harassment.Well if you don't pay your bills bad luck that was there attitude.I used them a number of times and they had a 90% strike rate.On your invoices make sure you have title retension on them.

Thanks for all the great info! As I mentioned I did have in mind that I'd lose a few and I've been pretty happy with the lack of 'problem children' till now - but it seems there is more I can do. I had kind of assumed that there'd be a minimum fee for debt collection making it nonsensical on such a small amount.

Food for thought - thanks again.
