2014 Ninja 1000 V 2011 Ninja 1000

Postby s man » Sat Nov 01, 2014 4:22 pm

I have just done a back to back ride on my 2011 Ninja 1000 ABS & a mates new 2014 model.
I'll start at the start.
The new bike seems to had all the rough edge's knocked off while still keeping its very sporty personality..
Its more refined & more leaning towards the touring side than the sports side. [But not by much]
The Brakes are a world better than the 2011, even if they are a little bitey. But super powerful, true superbike brakes.
Traction control works well. All very easy to change on the run, by a switch on the left bar.
Mode 1 its imposable to wheel stand at all. Spin the wheel on gravel, in other words, it would be great in wet condition.
Mode 2 you get less intrusive wheelie control, so the wheel will hover for a while until it takes over, you can spin the wheel up a little, but as soon as it works out somethings not right, it takes control.
Mode 3 is almost not there, unless you do something really wrong. Mono's are controlled, & in this mode you really do most of the work with your right hand. Its pretty much for those that do something wrong, but mostly you control the bike. I give the traction control an "A"+
Power modes.
Mode "A" is full power.
Mode "B" feel like it numbs the top end power, up to around 6000rpm it feels like normal. After 6000, it feels strangled.
Do you need it? Probably for the less experienced rider I'd say yes. For me? no.
Suspension has been tuned up a bit too. the rear feels a little more compliant, while holding the rear up well.. Again "A"+
Front is also tuned up compared to my 2011. Again more compliant & just better control. Again "A"
Mirrors are better but dont look great. "B"-
Multi function dash is very good, but a gear indicator would be good. A+.[cant have everything]
Both bikes have a great ABS system.
Ok the bad points.
The seat is still shit [My OEM gels are way better.] The standard mufflers do drone a bit, easy fix, fit a better system. That's is all really.
Just a lot of little things make it a very good bike, not that there was much wrong with the old one. They still need 1 tooth bigger front sproket. Even with the higher internal gearing of the 2014. They still feel a bit busy.
The 2011 to 2013 are a little more edgie, a little more mongrel, but I doubt any faster or slower.
My bike has a full Akrapovic race system & a EJK so a drag race would amount to nothing.
My bike felt more willing to bite you than the new one. But thats how I like it.
So If you looking at a new bike & want all the electronics, go the 2014.
If you want to control everything go the 2011 / 2013. Its a little more ZX10r than Ninja 1000.. If you know what I mean? You will save plenty of dollars & You wont be unhappy with either ... ;)

Steve its easy as this........

copy the full Youtube link to your video - like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVEhDrJzM8E

then, click on the YouTube tab above the post you are making - it is on the r/h end......like this

[Utube][/Utube]

then, paste your YouTube link in the middle of the above YouTube - like this

[Utube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVEhDrJzM8E[/Utube]

then - just delete everything except the actual video ID - which in the above instance is TVEhDrJzM8E - so all that is left is [Utube]TVEhDrJzM8E[Utube] NOTE - I had to change the actual words from YouTube to Utube otherwise the actual video clip would have appeared. Normally. you would see that code TVEhDrJzM8E with YouTube embedded in the brackets.

Once you get the YouTube link looking like this one directly above - submit your post. The link to your YouTube video will now be set up properly and the video will appear just fine. Give it a shot mate :kuda:

its pretty easy mate, once you get it right, it takes less than 30 seconds to upload a video link here :kuda:

Twin Akrapovic slip ons sound orright too.

My 2c

Puig Screen, makes a world of difference
Wilburs Rear Shock (DEATH TO THE ENGINEER OF THE 2011 SHOCK! DEATH BY SODOMISATION FROM ANGRY BUFFALO!)
Revalved and spring fronts.

I rode one of the new ones, and hes spot on, the hokus pokus is good on the 2014, the feel and rideablility is better on the 2011

Anyone actually gone 1 tooth up on the front able to provide feedback?

Yep did it on my 2011, & did it on my mates 2014.. 1 tooth is a great & simple mod, the bike isn't as frantic at highway speed, & calms the 1st & 2nd gear wheelies a little.
On the track I found the rear shock to be pretty good, the front end wasn't so happy though.

hmm so im not the only one always hunting for another gear at around 110 - 120.

Might get the shop to bung one on, buggered if im taking on a factory tightened front sprocket.

Bump an old thread :)

Ended up buying a 2012 model brand new for 12.9K rideaway recently. Couldnt be happier as its easy as around the burbs, wind protected on the slab and fun in the twisties! Oem tyres arent flash and stock exhaust looks horrible. Not sure what Ill upgrade too exhaust wise yet but funds are limited so might wait a bit. Awesome bikes as an all round unit for those interested :kuda:

That is either a 2011 or a 2013 model. most likely a 2013 so you got a very good deal.
The 2012 model had a green tank & black side panels

I have carbon Yoshi's on mine

Dec 12 build so yeah I guess a 2013 spec.

Thinking similar re carbon yoshi's or akra's but can wait for now. The carbon look fits in with the rest of the bike I think.
