gee it'll be really hard to get past one of those gadgets

sounds dangerous to me ... there are situations where you need to floor it (or twist it) to save being hit by a mack truck or something..

i heard recently of an off duty cop who was riding a bike and had some bell end go to pull out infront of him (SMIDSY) and so he just rolled on the throttle to get past the car before it would hit him... FLASH! 65km in a 60 zone ... took it to court and claimed if he didnt speed up that he woulda been cleaned up by the car, got let off.

I agree with Mario. Any government that tries to introduce that will only be in power until the next election!

Mario
i would agree with you
'cept this is NOT...some flakey organisation..like
the United Pedestrians Soc of NSW .....making these outlandish comments!
the guy is a public servant (sorry Jase!)
who is in charge of the governments road safety unit.....
he doesn't care who is in office in NSW
and will push the ROADSAFETY issue...coz the pollies reckon that wins
votes.....

I agree...
it is impractical, expensive, hard to police (betcha someone will
find a way around it) and bloody dangerous.....

is the Government of NSW going to make ALL its highways dual
carriageways.....to cope with this....????
Naaaah... corse not....... where they gonna get $30billion or so to do that?
and if not,
watch the death toll from headons go thru the roof...
what...make overtaking illegal?????
what next???
Eureka Stockade MKII...might be needed.....

personally, i reckon the road toll could easily go UP
not down with this, so it might not go thru

but what is being thought about or said...... is the scary thing
:(

Trucks are fitted with speed limiters, limiting them to 100 kays an hour and they either get the units removed, or bypass them. It's not hard to see which trucks have bypassed the system. They're the trucks doing 130 along the highway..... Plenty get pinched for it tho.

Trucks are a minority group and the general public probably agrees to trucks being limited. Car drivers are not a majority group, and who in their right mind would agree to an idea as absurd as this?

The other problem is, if they stop cars speeding by doing this, how the hell is the Bracks government going to make money??

Smitty,
is the law over here the same dumbass one as in the UK?
altered or illegible plate = hefty fine + points on license
no plate(it must have fallen off, officer :o ) = 85 quid fine + no points

I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

mate
from memory
there are only 2 offences here...

one relates to an illegible (unreadable faded or dirty) or obscured
plate (towbar in way)...and that used to be a fine only...
$105 comes to mind...with inflation could be $125 now...who knows

the other
is NO plate......
(you need a Police report for a stolen plate or a Vicroads transit pass to get outta this one)
and that is $165 and 2 points (hmmm..not sure about the points
could be 3..)
and yes....
it is TWO offences, if you have NO plates FRONT AND REAR (on a car) if you get caught...although I know most plod will only hit you with one ticket
for both missing plates (they are human after all)

and I am doing this from memory
so
might grab an update copy of the Road Rules and see what the latest is....

Jas
might like to give us the SA version......

cheers

Hmmm, I'd have to check my books.

There are basically two offences. 1 is for obstructing your number plate and one is for defacing the plate.. or something. I've never been into handing out number plate fines.

If any one gives a toss, I'll look it up. If not, I wont bother.
