MotoGP tyre thingies

While watching the motogp, I noticed that *after* the race, the top three bikes were parked together, and then 'something' was wrapped around each back tyre (I didn't see if there was anything on the front ones). The 'something' looked just like the tyre warmers that were on there before the race, but why would they be warming tyres that were shagged and useless, after a race?

Anyone know what they were, and why they were on the tyres after the race?

Prolly to hide the result of tyre wear, secretive stuff so I would have to kill you if I told ya :P
Teams like to see what the tyre is like after the race to detirmine if their settings can be improved one way or another, yes ya can tell by tyre wear what is happening and they need the data to calculate the next setting and what they did last time at this track, temps, other mods on the day.
But everytime Rossi wins he smokes em, but then again the team really do not need to know much considering he is usually finishing first.

Basically I don't know hehehe.

those are tyre equivalents of your tea-cosy
called tyre acceptulizers.....
and their job is to let the tyre carcass cool down in a controlled manner
allowing the race teams and the tyre co boffins to check the tyres out
but this of course is difficult when blokes like 'rossi' smoke 'em up
at the end of a race, destroying the tyres profile ( a burnout makes the profile FLAT  )
and changing the heat profile of the tyre
What they want is to check the tyre its temperature its profile without stones and crap stuck it

hth

of course the above is a figment of my imagination .....

i always thought that the tyre companies made the teams "cover up". Just in case their tyres didn't do as well as the other brands. They're always the first to throw hats advertising their brands on drivers/riders heads. i'm pretty sure they don't want anyone to know how good or bad their tyres went.

Rossi looked to be going way fast those last few laps and buggered if i know how they get their heads around that sort of speed, tea cosys for the tyres wouldnt be much left for a autopsy i wouldnt think. :D

went freakin fast dont know why they didnt leave it at that. :D :D

Cheer guys.

I was hoping for some super-secret fantastic explanation, but you're all probably right. Cover up the tyre wear, so they can do overly complicated analyses to say "the tyres are shagged after that!", but pretend there's more to it than that, as well as something else to chuck *more* advertising on.

they usually dont bother after the race, hadent done for a while - until.......

earlier on this year rossi's team started putting the tyre warmers on AS SOON AS HE PULLED IN. naturally gibernau and melandri's team, and lets face it they are the ones regularly on the podium with rossi, thought they were trying to hide some thing so they started doing it too.

mind games...........thats all.

anyway what valuble information could you get from a tyre that done burnouts on the cool down lap....as they all should

Exactly, burnout & victory wheelie should be mandatory, or lose some points :D

Remember Nanellis effort at Monza, wound up riding back in his undies & back protector, with wheelies, should have got an extra 10pts !

Thanks Phil. Now I'm killing myself laughing about the fact that that these teams are acting like primary school children  Kinda takes away a bit of the awe when watching!
