So you've just lost your license...

Postby Shifty » Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:11 pm

So you've just lost your license, or your bike is broken and you can't afford to fix it. Unfortunately, I seem to have scored both on one day. So, by the time I can aford to fix the bike, I will be without a license.

I live and breathe bikes... get up in the morning and go for a ride, spend my non-riding time with bike people and generally do all things bike-ish. The only reason I can get out of bed to go to work is that I can ride my bike there, and the only reason I last through the day is I keep telling myself that being there gives me enough money to ride, and that in a few hours time the day will be over and I can ride somewhere again.

What the hell do I do now? I'm sure I'm not the only one with this situation, so how do you get by?

shifty..welcome to my world, and wot a shitty world its been lately...
i am exactly like u..i eat, drink, shit, sleep, and live bikes...
here is wot ive done to try to take the edge off...

ride "bitch" on sum1 elses bike...
come in here as often as possible for a "fix"
play with the bike in the garage-repairs,customising etc
watch bikes on tv
go look at bike shops...
take ur bike to track..

i kno it sounds like a real tease, and it is, but the only thing im NOT doing that i use to do, is ride a bike on the road...its worked so far....

im abt to get my lic back in 4 weeks (YAY) right in the middle of winter (oh well), but ill only have 2 points for a year....

so mate, how did u lose urs?? and why no bike at the moment??
take the opportunity to save sum $$ to fix/buy new bike....

oh and having a pic of the next bike u want, plastered on ur wall beside ur bed, helps u get out of bed to go to work each day....

Man that just sucks. Thing is- how did you lose your licence?
Drink driving? Not much sympathy if that is the case.
Speeding? That is whole other story- it is about time the road rules reflected the abilities of motorcycles, which far exceed those of other vehicles on the road- we are subject to the same speed limits as B double semis and Road Trains? Where is the logic in that?
With the draconian enforcement of unrealistic speed limits licence loss is an often occuring event. Does it solve anything? I think not....it just causes hardship, inconvenience and misery. When are the rules going to approach something fair and workable? I wonder when it is making the government so much money......
Dude a good opportunity to reflect on how you are going to do things in future, and to prepare for your next ride- paint and polish your bike.
Many years ago I lost my licence for six months for speeding- what did I do? Saved up for six months and on the day I got it back I bought a ZZR1100....then the fastest bike you can buy- I didn't go out and speed on it, but it gave me much pleasure knowing I had survived the 6 month period and they can get stuffed- I had the fastest bike in existence.... :x

Been there done that. Although (touch wood) it's been atleast 10 years since I've had to walk. Did it for a month speeding. He only had to drop me 1km/h to save my licence. Image

But the 2 times I lost it before that were harder. Different rules when I was a P plater. No such thing as suspension. It was a court case, loss of licence for 3 months minimum + fines, and a total loss of licence. That meant having to book in for a learners permit at 9:00am, and licence test at lunchtime. Get some driving done in between and do the test and start from scratch again so another 3 year probationary period starts.

If I survived you will. (And I needed my licence being an Electrical contractor at the time).

Slow down!

indeed, i'd suggest you keep it on 2 wheels & not back it into corners or speed, as fun as it is.

Else you might loose it again for a lot LONGER. Fark i know i dont want that, hearing you bitch about no license since i got on here was enough as it is ;-).

It is kinda hard to not speed atleast SOME of the time on a modern sportsbike.

Accumulation of points for speeding fines. I absolutely stand by my comments about 200km/h in a 60km/h zone being complete idiocy!

Brisbanites will recognise the spot as a regular radar trap - that's part of the reason I'm fuming as I *know* there are often tax collectors there. I decided to go down Settlement Road (instead of using Samford Road - first mistake), and was heading towards Waterworks Road. I was with a friend on her TRX850 and pulled up at the set of lights near the shopping centre behind a car, content to cruise, but she pulled up in the other lane so I ducked over as well (second mistake).

I ended up a wheel in front of her, so when the light went green I took off first (third mistake), but at or around the speed limit. When coming up to the short dual-lane section there was a slow car in front of me, so I accelerated past it (fourth and final mistake) and next thing I knew I was getting told "gee we've taken some money off you blokes this weekend, I wish I got some of it" and having the convenient payment options explained to me.

I tried to point out that the only reason I had accelerated was to clear the car safely before the end of the merge lane, and that while I was sorry for speeding I didn't believe I had acted dangerously. The guy didn't want a bar of it and continued to berate me - this time asking where I was going and giving me a hard time because there was an 'easier way' and I wouldn't have gotten booked there.

Unfortunately for me being off the road isn't an opportunity to save money, it will actually cost me a lot! I have free parking at work and it costs me about $2 a week in fuel. To catch the bus takes me an extra 30 minutes each way and costs me $4.80 a day so it's a very miserable situation, especially when it hasn't taught me anything!

Stop ya bitchin' shifty :P
U got caught so just wear it, learn not to get caught or speed if you can't learn. 8) I also find it hillarious when a police member asks for a reason for speeding, no reason will ever get you off but the cop might let you go (if ya not a cocksmoker)haha.
200 in a 60 zone well yeah it is a bit fast even for that time of night but still 1km over the limit "kills" remember, or so they keep telling us.
In my opinion you are just as guilty at 1km over as you are at 140 over :P :P
( It is also ironic I am commenting on this too. :? but hey I observe speed limits in towns most of the time and especially around schools)

(take abovecomments with a grain of salt)
