This only happens once

Postby mile636 » Wed Jun 08, 2005 4:03 pm

It was past midnight and I was off home from my girlfriends place. Its only a 10 minute ride and it was very cold. As there was noone on the road and it was chilly I decided to flog it on the straight.

I was doing around 200km/h when I zoomed passed a undercover cop car. (btw it was a 60 zone). I didn't even see them. I stop at the red lights and guess what. They appear behind me.

They pulled me over and we had a chat.

I was very calm and was talking to them like i've done nothing wrong. Then another cop car appears. They tell me they didn't think I'll stop so they called a backup. I remained calm. They asked me if I knew how serious this situation is and I say I know but as I can't change anything now and there is no reason for me to do anything but to face my consequensces.

Guess what.

The older cop asked me about my bike and how long I've been riding, what do I do, where am I going and so on...

AND... he told me to...

Slow it down next time as you might kill somebody...

... and he handed back my licence AND thanked me for my honestly...

SOMEBODY PINCH ME

The feeling is unreal...

I dodn't feel like posting the whole conversation I had with them. I mean it would take me ages to type it up and described it.

Though, I shlould add this:

... we heard you coming...
... you didn't even see us parked there...
... most riders don't even stop...
... how come you stoped?...
... you were flying...

Now I'm questioning myself if they were cops at all???

It's an awesome feeling, and sort of makes you slow down (for a while). Take it easy.

I have to say that's fucked. You deserved to lose your license and that's that.

I don't mean to sound controversial, but 200km/h in a 60km/h zone? You're a fucking idiot - if you hadn't said it was a cold night I'd imagine you're the kind of turkey who would have been doing it in shorts and a t-shirt too. YOU are the kind of person that causes ridiculous laws to be implemented. People like you crash at 200km/h in a 60km/h zone and get dead, while those of us who save shenanigans for a more suitable time and place get strict motorcycle exhaust laws, 50km/h zones and anti-motorcycle press.

I'm all for abolishing speed limits, but people like you demonstrate why it will never happen.

I agree and disagree with you

I should have lost my licence but I don't think I give a bad name to anyone.

BTW I was wearing my leather jacket and jeans but it was still cold...

And I'm sure a lot of guys here speed, including you.

As I said I'm all for ditching speed limits entirely. Like almost everyone here I have been fined for speeding before, but on only one of those occasions could I understand why someone would feel justified in saying my actions were inappropriate. On that occasion I was fined for 120km/h in a 70km/h zone, where I belted off from a set of lights to 100km/h and slowed straight back to the speed limit at 70km/h.

The police "estimated" my speed at 120km/h and insisted that I had slowed down only because their lights came on. In that situation, I think I would have deserved a ticket and understood where they were coming from. Unfortunately for me the truth of the matter was that I was over the limit for about 3 seconds, hitting a maximum of 100km/h (second gear hit the rev limiter at 102km/h, and I didn't hit it!), slowing down immediately of my own accord and not just speeding recklessly. Unfortunately the cop didn't believe me, so based on his understanding of what had happened I suppose the ticket was justified.

The other tickets I have had were purely revenue raising (eg. cruising 20 over the limit on the highway, getting booked 10 k's over down a hill, that kinda stuff).

As you can see I'm no angel myself, but there is never a situation where 200km/h in a 60km/h zone is an appropriate speed.
