 Wots going on here!!!

I understand the annoyance of pulling your helmet off and displacing your earphones- very annoying when you have them in the perfect spot! But, as previously said, pulling gear on and off is all part of riding.

I understand you feeling discriminated against, as others can enter the servo with their faces covered. But, as previously said, we as riders are discriminated against in many ways.

I also understand the fear that the servo attendant must feel when someone comes in with their face covered. It is a shame that people need to categorise us, but in the past there have been enough servos robbed by helmet wearing thiefs to warrant this stipulation.

If you feel strongly enough on the issue make a stand. Write letters (servo management explaining the perceived discrimination , AMCN, etc), go to a servo that does not request you remove your helmet (are there any?)

I have boycotted a local servo to make a point. I am sure that the lack of my business after being a customer for 20 years has not made a difference to their profit margin but gosh it felt good giving that guy a spray!!!

I can see both points of view, except for this one! I'm boycotting the forum! :P .....

There's no debate about tyres, Hoffy is our tyre fact overlord isn't he?

I used to work in a servo, and touch wood I never got held up, but two others did in the time I was working there. I mostly remove my helmet when I pay for fuel but there have been a couple of times I haven't, and it was no big deal. Not that I've been anywhere on my bike lately, but realistically, if it's a long trip I'm out on then considering the time it takes to stop somewhere and buy fuel, taking the helmet on and off isn't going to add a significant amount of time to the stopover, even if I have to realign my headphones when I put the lid back on. Most of the time on my massive road trip I'd push the bike somewhere out of the way and have a durry as well, and that's kind of hard to do with a helmet on ;).

Just take it off. You know it makes sense.

Just on a side note, any ear plug device for sound inserted in the ear is this legal?
Whats the deal with helmet mounted speakers, the same?
Anyone know the law on this?

as you all know i havn't been riding for long , the first time i went to re-fuel i road into the servo turned of my bike opened the fuel tank grabed the bowser a started to fill her up.
but the pump kept on cutting out and this happened 10 or more times and i couldnt for the life of me work out why.
i thought it was the nozzle getting to close and it was shutting off automaticly, but me beeing the persistant one kept on filling her up , so after about 15mins she was full and i was starting to feel like an idiot for beeing there for so long filling up a motorbike.
then i got off my bike and went in to pay for the fuel with my helmet on mind you, and the person behind the counter said that i had to get off the bike and take my helmet off to re-fuel , and he was stopping the pump from inside on purpose, to try and make me realise what i was doing the wrong thing.
I was very pissed off and embarassed by this time and i payed the cashier and left the servo feeling pretty stupid to say the least.
Beeing on the bike while filling up may have led the guy to beleive that i was going to take off without paying and then going in to pay he might have thought that i was going to rob the joint .
so to save a hole bunch of headachs for everyone involved for me its just easyer to take off my helmet.

for the time it takes its not worth the embarassment or the hassel just to prove a point .

and the fact of the matter is we choose to ride bikes and unfortunatley taking your helmet off every 2 seconds is part of beeing a motorcyclist not to mention the gloves earplugs sunglases etc.

Just enjoy it , for me getting my bike licence and riding my bike is the best thing and i enjoy it heaps , so dont let a little thing like a helmet get you down.

when really cold i do tend to leave the helmet on too and as you did walk in with cash or CC in hand so they can see im going to pay, have only ever had one servo tell me he wouldnt serve me until i took my helmet off as he quite rudely pointed to the sticker beside the front door, so i took my helmet off to reveal a full face balaclava ;-) before he could say anything i kindly told him not to ask me to remove it as there was no sticker saying balaclava's must be removed he he he he
he just processed the CC then and i was on my way :D :D

I had filled up at a servo one cold winters day, was just putting my balaclava back on and this little kid says quite calmly, "look daddy, that mans a robber".

I agree and disagree.
I think that this is a valid arguement, I don't beleive that there is a difference..... in covering or disguising yourself, in the two ways mentioned in the first post.

BUT..... I know which arguement would win. I beleive that if the two of you walked in together, the RIDER would still be asked to remove the helmet and
the person with the covered face....... beit muslim or not would not. Is this right, maybe, is this fair probly not. Is this how it is YES and can we change it, I think not. Sometimes, somethings in life suck, sometimes they shit ya... and sometimes there's sweet fa we can do about, I think this is one of those times.

Build a bridge and get over it. Its just how its going to be......but is a legitimate arguement nonetheless, but we ain't gonna change it.

Thats me.

Cheers
