GAH! Dropped the bike at 200km/h. !!!

Postby MadKaw » Fri Oct 01, 2004 9:03 am

Did a track day yesterday at Eastern Creek.....
Had a little problem at turn 1....
The track was a little damp and I was a bit wide on the turn 1 entry. The tyres let go forcing me to straighten up and run onto the grass. With the grass being wet I just went along for the ride.
We went down almost straight away and must have slid, still attached to the bike, for about 80 odd metres. We ended up in the gravel trap, absolutely covered in gravel, it was like bloody quicksand..
The damage is minor with the biggest problem being all the scratches from the gravel... bloody kitty litter my ass, they are rocks...
The frame sliders worked a treat as nothing is brocken or dented... excluding my ego and my wallet....

It was damn scary I'll tell you that...
When something happens at that speed theres not much you can do.

The bike didn't need much running in as this rebuild was just the head..

and mate I only have one speed.... flat out... and thats either on the bike or sliding on my ass...

Didn't do any serious damage to myself except I'm damn sore and bruised.

Ouch Dave, that ought to suck. Nice pun on the topic title though, gave me a giggle. Got any pictures of the bike? Oh, and your bruised ego to? I always wondered what one of those would look like, I don't know where they store it on me.

Sorry to hear about it, crashes, drops, always get the better of you. Its like dropping your 2 year old child off the top of a slippery slide, same kind of pain as watching your bike slide down the track at 200km/h.

Woah!! Dave, sure beats going to the royal show and jumping on those poxy rides!

"At least you don't got no broken bones." (Spoken in my worse streetfighter voice.)

I've always wondered what it would be like to end up in the kitty litter.. guess I don't wanna find out after reading that.

Hey, did everything go in slow motion?

Shit Dave, thats no good about the bike, but at least youre ok.

Ive ventured into the kitty litter at EC more than once. I can vouch that its not very friendly to man or machine.

So did the bike go alright before that?

Thanks guys, yes it was a real bummer as it happened in the last session of the day, up till then everything was going fine.
The only thing that needs replacing is the left side engine case which was jusy about stuffed anyway as it has a tendancy to hit the deck at steep lean angles.
The thought process whilst its happening is quite strange, especially as I slid for so long.. The first thought after the inital slide was, "I can save it", then I ran of the track thinking I'm going to crash, when I didn't crash straight away, I thought "I can save it", then it bounced up over some rough stuff and down we went. Then the thoughts were disbelief mixed with am I ever gonna stop and if I do I hope its not into something hard.. :?
I was up all night reliving it...
The misses was pretty pissed with me, especailly when she saw me come back in the ambulance.. Its funny how quickly concern turned to anger when she found out nothing was wrong with me.. :)
My last crash was 2 1/2 years ago, it was the day of first wedding anniversary and Jus was about the same time into her pregnancy as she is now. I broke my collarbone and 4 ribs and had a steel rod in my shoulder for 4 months.. If I ended up in hospital this time, I wouldn't have got out alive... :D

Heres some pics prior
