Owning nice fast car vs nice bike+shitbox

General Discussion

I drove a Silvia/200sx in Gran Tourismo and it sure sucked.

But in all fairness I would own one over any front hook rubbish, although I do hear (from a guy who drove both at the track) that the Integra type R (what a gay name for a car) ran rings around them at the track, apparently it has way better handling and brakes etc.

But in the end, I have said it before and I will say it again: Give me a crusty old Valiant any day. Well in this company an E49 Chugger.

Answer: phase 4 if ya can find one or a GTHO phase 3 if ya got some spare cash, you will be too busy having fun and keeping it straight to worry about its flaws, mind you if you have 1 of the 2 still left of the 4 Phase 4's built ya can name your own price for it. :P

Get a bike, most will leave any ricer at the lights so there is no question about it and most come stock with that ability.

I would love a Shelby Cobra myself if I had a spare 500k

Bike and shit box car. If my missus would let me I would sell the camry and get something cheaper to run...but she wants something to cart the kids around in....go figure. Bike is always more fun than a car, even my gpx250 is said to get from 0-100km/h in 5.5secs. I dunno if thats true but it would be close...the acceleration from 60 to 100 is fun. How fast does one really need to go legally anyway? It gets to 140km/h without too much effort...and seems a whole lot more fun at that speed than a car at 140. Get a bike and a crap car for days where you cannot ride to work safely (ie pissing down rain, ear infections...(dammit!!! why do I have to have one of those now :( )...etc...)

definitely bike mate,

nothing compares to the enjoyment, but you have to have bigger cahoonies to go quicker on a bike, as it is a little more dangerous.
Also it does require more skill, that is why it's so rewarding.

do you have big cahoonies??
If so bike it.

Im going through this dilemmer at the moment,
i have a nice car, not overly fast
its a Holden Vectra, have spent lots of momey on it, making it a very clean and tidy car and making stick to the road like shit to your foot...
i thinki can do the putty bends quicker in it than the bike...

i've only had it for 18months i think, rego's due, insurance will be due in about 3 months ($1900) tyres are expensive (18s), being european, all the bits i buf for it need to me imported and cost heaps. nothings cheap. its niice comfy and good for everything.
but then theres my bike, a shiny new Z1000....
i am paying both and thats ok, its do-able...
but then comes the bit where i think about moving out with the Gf and one day asking her to be punished for life...
and cost is too much...
im lost...

When I last had a car (4 year ago... wow, has it been that long?)...

I had a Mazda 323 Sudan.... it had a huge Stereo in it.......

It was good actually, the car was comfortable to drive in but not fast by any stretch of the imagination.... the bike was the opposite... fast and fun....

Having both a fast car and a fast bike leads to having no license I reckon...

Just going completely off-topic, I saw that movie last night. Most of the time I couldn't understand a word Heath Ledger was saying. If he gets an Oscar for that incomprehensible drawl, Sly Stallone should get a lifetime achievement award.

OK back on topic - suggest keep current car as grocery getter, don't buy 200sx, spend money on late model (but not new) ZZR250 or GPX250. Or if you want a grey import and can avoid getting ripped off, maybe a ZX2R or CBR250R.

Bear in mind if you buy used but still in good nick, you should be able to sell the bike virtually for the same price you bought it for when you want to upgrade after getting full licence.

Mate, I definitely suggest picking the bike. I had the EXACT same choice to make, and I chose the bike - haven't looked back since.

I had a supercharged 5L VN (limited edition model with a blower) and I blew away a Ducati with it (ran 10s.. mad chassis twist) ... but I can guarantee you the Ducati rider would have been having more fun :D

That being said, I've got a friend with a 180rwkw Skyline (ricebox P.O.S) and my ZX2R beat him up to about 140 (even after I mis-hit 2nd gear and bounced off the limiter lol), and I have no idea how to ride yet :P I'm still considerably behind my other friend's HSV GTO LE, however - some of you may have seen him around the place in Adelaide - silver car, plates 'LE2NV'.

If you're going to get a car, get a fast one, but even then, I'd choose a bike over a car (especially a 200sx), having had the chance to get started on a bike :)

I had a car before I got back into bikes and I couldnt go back. Sure, they are handy when you want to carry stuff, but I have friends who can do that for me so no loss. Im also a selfish prick and like doing my own thing and riding however fast I want to ride so no screaming from the back seat either. And 2 words that all bike riders should sherish, LANE SPLITTING. Man, I dont think I could ride in Sydney without going up the middle. I see all these people stuck in their cars and just laugh as I cruise along. If you have to have a car for whatever reason, get a shitter, use it and abuse it but a bike is 10 times more fun than any car. And chicks love em so im told.......
