Help with new tyres please.

It seems to me that both the 012ss and Pilot Powers are both very good tyres.

I'll ring around for pricing on both of these tyres and the cost will be the deciding factor for me!!

Careful with those BT012ss. They have a nasty habit of letting go at the most inoportune moments. They don't give any warning either, they just let go! This applies to both road and track usage. I had a set let go on a road ride in two different spots where there was no lack of grip, and also on the track, one particular one being a rather nasty front and rear at the same time let go ........while at full lean, in the middle of turn 1 at Phillip Island

So are you saying that the Bridgestone 002s are better than the Pilot Powers? And that the Pilot Powers are better than the Bridgestone 012ss?

Some Info from my limited desert knowledge

Bridgestone 002/Michelin Power Race/Pirelli Supercorsa Pro/Metzler Racetec/Dunlop 208GP& D209GP all are Supersport tyre/treaded slick.
Not much or any side tread & maybe dangerous in rain.

Bridgestone 012SS/Michelin Pilot Power (Sticky street tyre).
Dunlop 208RR Sticky street tyre used as Superstock Control tyre.

Bridgestone 014&012/Michelin Pilot sport/DunlopD208 average street tyre.

I have used (1)set of Pilot Sports & onto (2)set of Pilot Powers & for my nana street & occassional track days they are good, when they get abit old they get slippery but seemed reasonablly predictable to me.
I get about 3-3.5k out of rear & 5K from front.

Millsi on an old std 02 GSXR1000 was doing 1:18's@QR on his Pilot Powers & I think that's slightly faster than a slick shod Madfab on a ZX9 race bike, but Fab will no doubt sort this out & then probably me the next time he see's me.

Did I mention fab is a top fella & made me look even more like a nana @ QR than I already am?

hell no, I don't doubt his time for a moment, what I am saying is that its like a trap time, or a dyno sheet, its actual *proof* of your ability to do a good time, cut a quick 1/4 mile, or spin up 180hp

I have heard so many tossers talk about how fast/great/fantastic they are, but trap times don't lie, 60ft times don't lie, and dyno charts are a good indication ....

I guess you can cover it with the racer's credo.......When the Green Flag Drops, the Bullshit Stops....

Yeah thats right! You see it is not Bridgestone tyres i like, Just some of the models they make. Same with the other tyre manufacturers. Some of their tyres are good....some arn't! So yeah, It would make me sleep better at night knowing you were riding pilots rather than 012ss's! But again, I would rather see you on 014's than Pilots!

Yeah of course, But I'm fairly sure more than (1) person was @QR to verify Millsi's 1:18's including some fast guys on slicks who weren't much quicker, anyways don't matter it's just a point of reference that the Pilot Powers are not a bad tyre.

I think the fastest Super stock guys are doing around the 1:18's on 600's with the Dunlop 208RR so that shows similar performance to a Pilot Power with a good rider.

My misses with the stop watch is more acurate than most Dyno sheets.. ... (dyno charts a good indication... hahaha..)

I'm happy to back up any of my "claimed" times by doing a few laps with anyone who may doubt em.....
Enough ppl have ridden with and timed me at the creek so they know, its those that don't get out there that you can't be sure of....

BTW, Lap timers are now banned at E.C. and P.I. on track days...

Chuck the Metzeler Sportec's in there as well as Phil suggested. They really are an excellent tyre and may well be less expensive then the others..
