I am a kwaka nut, but I have never liked the look of the ZX9 or the older Sixes either. I reckon even my 1995 ZX6R,F1 is one of the ugliest bikes Kawasaki has ever built. But hey it's all subjective i guess.

I am not really fond of the ZRX12, but I reckon with the right touches it could look like a really modern version of the old Kerker equiped Z1's. But it's the riding that will worry me. I think it may be too much of a barge.

I really lurve the look of the Z1000, but I actually prefer the Orange of all things. I think they only have em in black or that fcuking orrible titanium spew colour! But once again it's the ride thats important and I am unsure what they go, stop and steer like??? Also the lack of wind protection. :?

Mate - when I tested the Z1000, I found it to be comfy (on a 60k test loop....), steered nice, braked really well, but the wind-blast is exactly what you would expect on an unfaired bike - anything over 160 is a pain in the neck - literally.

Having said that, I think it has the potential for being *every bike you want wrapped up in 1 hit* - right motor, a small bikini-fairing can fix the wind-blast easy........

Mind you, a 12 does all the above, and *heaps* more.......

I believe you Mick i think its good
after a long ride i'm find
except when i have to ride behind slow cars for an hour on the GOR
but other than that
ZX10R is number one in my eyes

but Strika maybe this in another opition

yeah early 6R's were pretty ugly, but in my oppinion after 98 they got a whole lot better... the frame and every little detail looked a lot more modern and not quite so cheap'n nasty.. the 9R's are much the same from 98 onwards... each to their own tho.. absolutely love the Z1000/03-04 6R tail

its a shame kawasaki have left a slight hole in their lineup that the 9 used to fill nicely... hopefully the 06/07 Z1000 will have a bikini fairing option, ram air and a slightly wilder motor

Ummm z1000 but as reported the wind blast would be a problem or test ride a 12r because they are suposed to be pretty nimble once you get moving.

I rode my 04 6r from brisbane to pi and back and the only time it really hurt was when we where doing a bit of highway on the way back probably did 200kms worth one day and the seat isnt designed to be sat on so no matter what you do it hurts a bit.

Apart from that we did some 650 km days and plenty of 550km days up and back and it was all on twisty stuff so your bum isnt really on the seat so no pain.

you could try a big zzr but there more a tourer thing and good at it too.

The reasons for considering something like a Z1000 is it is a comfy bike yeah, but apparently it still corners and stops pretty good for an old steelframed bike. And even though the back has given out I stil wanna go round corners fast (well sort of, I spose it's all relative  )

go to http://www.riderforums.com they are z crazy. there is nothing they dont know about them. Although it will never compare to here. but if you want to know more about the z1000 have a squiz.

I to am a z1000 fan after having test ridden one and eventually when I do go back to riding I dont want the same thing again "the broken spine and busted balls syndrome"

At 100 the wind blast is nothing, as well as I dont know how "spirited" you ride the bike but as a normal rider i wouldnt think you would be doing 160+

good luck in your search, but the z1000 is a good bet. Also I may be shot for saying this but the new suzuki GSR600 is might sweet.

Hey I have also noticed for you ZX10 pilots they have started new discussion threads as well. been a while since i visited.

Went and did some bum testing today! nobody slapped me so I must have done well!

Sat on a Z1000. mmmm very comfy but tha handling sounds suss.

Sat on a ZX10R too. mmm Also a little more confy than the 636.

Sat on a Speed Triple, but they are hideous!

Sat on a VFR800, but once again they are Fugly!

So front runners appear to be the Z1000 with 3K worth of suspension, or a ZX10 with single seat cowl, custom fuffler bracket, and pillion pegs removed, as well as rear fender eliminator!

Could I still come riding wiff ya's if I buy an orange branded bike?????? :D I am sorta interested in riding a KTM SuperDuke!!!

And I have arranged a test ride for a new ZX10 for today week, when I get back from Sydney. It's got a pipe on it unfortunately, but i don't want one one mine. Mind whoevers black one it is with the Akra pipe is mmmm very nice! But If I buy a 10 it will either be green or black (if I can track down a new green one). They actually felt a lot more comfy sitting on em today than my 636. I jumped from one to the other, and although the difference is only slight, it might just be enough.

I lurve the 636, but I reckon as I am getting older and my skills and abilities diminish, I need more power to make up the deficit, and also so i don't have to change gear!

i've had the chance to have a GOOD go on one on twisty bumpy hilly roads and all i can say is "whoa - what a hoot". if i could live with it as my only bike would be another story. its also the same price (ballpark) as a new 1000 4.

HTH.

a z1000 with suspension mods and a pipe would be cheaper.
