So what speed were you doing?

I'm not too sure, could be anything between 40-100km/h, I don't look at my speed when I take a corner or lean over.

The other possibility is that you don't generally push the limits of the tyres, perhaps on this occasion you went past your normal cornering angle onto a smoother part of the tyre?

May be a good excuse to save up for a braking & cornering course?

You could be right about the tyre bit. My money has always been ready for a course, but they closed down Darlington Park!

I am surprised at the road rash on the elbow/arm!

I don't think it's the vibration, I've got used to that already.
The abrasion on the elbow/arm is caused by the inside of the jacket.
I just took out the bandages to air the wound, had to cover them as I walked alot around the office. Realised that the abrasions on my knees were also caused by the inside of the jeans. Although the pics look like it's a big wound but it's actually very very superficial, hardly any blood. That wouldn't be possible if the knee was in direct contact with the tarmac.
